Its media app ‘theScore’ is one of the most popular in North America, delivering fans highly personalized live scores, news, stats, and betting information from their favorite teams, leagues, and players. theScore’s sports betting app ‘theScore Bet Sportsbook & Casino’ delivers an immersive and holistic mobile sports betting and iCasino experience. theScore Bet is currently live in the Company's home province of Ontario. theScore also creates and distributes innovative digital content through its web, social and esports platforms.

About the Role & Team

The Vice President of Front-End Engineering reports directly to the Head of Engineering at PENN Interactive and is responsible for front-end engineering across the entire interactive portfolio for PENN Entertainment.

The consumer-facing product portfolio includes ESPN BET, theScore, theScore Bet, and PENN’s iCasino products. The Front-End team crafts experiences delivered on web platforms and closely with Mobile, Platform, Data, Infrastructure, and Quality teams.

This opportunity is uniquely positioned to impact the next generation of PENN’s interactive experiences immediately. The VP will partner with the company's product, design, and business stakeholders to develop strategic solutions that will win in the marketplace.

The VP of Front-End Engineering will set the vision and be responsible for the group's execution and delivery models. This leader must have a strong senior presence, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and foster a can-do culture that aligns resources, priorities, and processes for success. In addition, this resource provides hands-on leadership for the ideation, development, and execution of strategic initiatives.

About the Work

  • Lead Front-End Engineering strategy and roadmap execution for PENN Interactive.
  • Manage a large group of engineers & engineering leaders; 3rd party partnerships and resources.
  • Drive best-in-class engineering solutions for delivering scalable, efficient, and reliable solutions to support world-class consumer products.
  • Utilize effective leadership practices to attract and retain top talent at all levels and develop a world-class Front-End Engineering organization.
  • Drive communications and reporting activities across the organization, providing hands-on leadership for the ideation, creative concept development, and execution of strategic initiatives in partnership with executive leadership.
  • Grow and develop the organization with strong talent to meet the demands of the business, prioritize goals, provide guidance and development for the team, and create cohesive working relationships company-wide.
  • Other duties as required.

About You

  • 15+ years of experience, including leading Engineering resources at large organizations.
  • BS or MA Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and/or other related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining successful, influential working relationships at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong communication and executive presence with exceptional storytelling and influencing skills.
  • Experience working with large code bases with significant complexity.
  • Exceptional understanding of modern software architectures.
  • Exceptional understanding of front-end web technology and demonstrated experience with large-scale consumer-facing products.
  • Significant knowledge of object-oriented design, software development principles, and design patterns.
  • Pioneering, innovative thinker with the ability to anticipate and lead capabilities that will enable PENN’s growth amidst rapid change.
  • Proven ability to motivate and collaborate in a highly metrics-driven environment.
  • A leader able to develop excellent working relationships, gain respect and trust, and is skilled at developing people.
  • Ability to channel different points of view; establish and maintain excellent relationships and credibility quickly; create a team atmosphere while achieving key objectives.
  • Experience with management of remote workgroups.
