Qualified Veterinary Nurse
Veterinary Nurses are responsible for supporting Veterinary Surgeons in providing excellent standards of care in medically assessing, diagnosing and treating animals presented to the clinic.

Client Care
Manage the flow of clients and pets through the clinic. Take appointment bookings, manage arrivals and departures in the waiting room, monitor clients going into and coming out of consults, take payments and organise follow-up as directed.
Build strong relationships with clients and provide excellent client service, including always using pet’s name/correct sex; give pats, compliments and treats; offer written material wherever possible; help pets and clients to feel as relaxed as possible during visits.
Ensure there is someone at the front desk at all times, greet clients within 15 seconds and answer phones within three rings.
Prepare correspondence and accounts, ensure accurate billing and clear communication with clients.
Communicate with owners of hospital patients regularly.
Provide grief support to clients, and support team members when needed.
Promote preventative health care and the Best for Pet program to all clients.
Promote premium pet foods or, where necessary, prescription diets.
Ensure every client receives a case follow-up within five days from an appropriate team member; this may involve a recall or revisit.
Ensure the reminder system is up to date and active and that correct standards of care are being followed.
Observe the required standards of care in the delivery of nursing, reception services and client liaison.
Respond appropriately to client feedback (positive and negative).
Ensure cleanliness of waiting room and consult room.
Clinical Assistance
Support vets during consults and surgical procedures. Set up equipment; be proactive based on the client history or procedure.
Advise vets of any special cases (ie an appointment for a pet over the age of seven not yet on a seniors plan) prior to the consult.
Assist vets with animal restraint, taking samples, radiographic routines and preparing and caring for patients (pre- and post-operative).
Perform team consults where appropriate.
Promote great dental care by discussing tooth brushing/dental treats/prescription diets, recommending regular dental checks, providing handouts or, where appropriately trained, performing nurse dental checks.
Plan daily work routines, coordinate clinic admissions and hospital patients. Ensure clear communication through organising admission forms and hospital sheets. Perform and record TPRs on hospital patients, manage surgery list and monitor anaesthetic records.

Work closely with your Practice Manager on your areas for development.

Training of trainees or new hires to VetPartners standards.
General Duties
Keep all client details up to date, assist vets with histories.
Maintain good relationships with suppliers and sales representatives.
Toilet, clean and feed hospital cases, clean and dress wounds, ensure pets are comfortable.
Clean theatre and prep areas; clean, pack and autoclave all surgical kits.
Label pathology samples correctly and complete schedules.
Administer the PMS and liaise with support if required.
Support growth of the business and of other VetPartners clinics. When referrals are necessary, promote VetPartners clinics/hospitals when it is in the best interest of the pet.
Contribute to stock control procedures.
Ensure all equipment is maintained in good working order. Advise Lead Vet Surgeon immediately of any faulty or damaged equipment.
Contribute to a safe and healthy workplace; take responsibility for your own safety.
Observe excellent cleanliness and hygiene throughout clinic.
Adhere to all VetPartners policies and procedures.
Support your team members and foster a positive and friendly work environment.
Perform your duties with integrity and respect.
Maintain security of clinic, company property (including cash and invoices), client property. Ensure pets are always restrained in a safe and secure manner.

Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent
