Utility Site Civil Engineer II

We are currently searching for a Site Civil Engineer who will play a critical role in our Power department. This role will be responsible for the design, calculations and analysis of substations, transmission lines and underground electrical systems related to Civil standards. This position requires advanced technical expertise, project management skills, and a deep understanding of industry standards and regulations. 

You could also have the opportunity to be imbedded with a large utility (PSE&G) learning the ropes on behalf of Milhouse. Get first-hand experience in the consulting AND client space!

What you will do:

  • Develop comprehensive design plans for transmission lines, considering factors such as voltage levels, capacity, route selection, and structural design. 
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including NEC, NESC, and local codes. 
  • Develop designs and analyze alternatives to meet substation, communication tower or transmission project requirements. 
  • Manage transmission line design projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. 
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, surveyors, and environmental experts, to ensure project success. 
  • Leads meetings concerning specific projects and communicates with all levels of team members 
  • Assign tasks to team members, regularly review progress to ensure needs or being met. 
  • Conduct routine inspections and assessments of existing transmission infrastructure to identify maintenance or upgrade requirements. 
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, including design plans, reports, and technical specifications. 
  • Provide regular progress reports to management. 

What we are looking for:

  • Strong knowledge of industry-specific software and tools, such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and structural analysis software. 
  • Excellent project management and communication skills. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. 
  • Experience in one or more: land use, storm water, steel and architectural/structural.

Your background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on transmission line design, preferably in the utilities industry.
