We're recruiting for a US International Tax Manager to work within Group Tax to support the Head of Insurance and Investments Tax and the Head of Bermuda Tax. Primary responsibilities include supporting on:
- Provision of advice on US tax matters to the insurance business (and in particular in relation to US life insurance tax).
- Tax matters pertaining to Bermuda, including monitoring adherence to the Group’s operating guidelines.
- Investment structuring and M&A, to the extent they relate to the US or Bermuda Insurance businesses.
- Group-wide US tax matters, such as BEAT and CAMT.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting the Head of Insurance & Investments Tax and Head of Bermuda Tax as a tax business partner on international tax issues, specifically in relation to the US and Bermuda reinsurance businesses. This includes advising the Institutional Retirement division of potential tax exposures in relation to US inbound direct investments and cross-border PRT reinsurance transactions.
- Gaining an understanding of and managing the US tax profile of reinsurance structures and insurance entity investments, including understanding and mitigating exposures and risks such as US permanent establishment risk. Develop and maintain knowledge of key US tax matters impacting the Group, including impact assessments and knowledge dissemination across Group Tax and impacted business areas.
- Producing technical analysis and documentation on key international tax issues for projects and transactions to support internal sign off, including US domestic tax analysis where appropriate.
- Responsible for the management of US federal and state tax compliance and year-end reporting for group entities in the insurance business, including the assessment of US inbound tax matters such as BEAT and CAMT.
- Supporting the Head of Bermuda Tax on all matters pertaining to our Bermudian reinsurance operations, including the implementation and ongoing operation of the Bermudian CIT regime, and support in implementing and monitoring operating guidelines for the business.
- Building relationships with key contacts in the Institutional Retirement division to ensure Group Tax are embedded appropriately into commercial activity.
- Supporting the Group’s relationship with key tax authorities, including HMRC and the IRS and assist with resolution of tax audits and enquiries. Monitor changes in US tax code and the international tax landscape, in particular as relating to the reinsurance industry.
Who we're looking for:
- Professional Accounting Qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA or CPA) and/or Taxation qualification (e.g. CTA, ADIT) with a solid level of post qualification tax experience within a large corporate or practice
- Knowledge of UK Taxes Acts, as they apply to International Taxes including corporation tax, VAT and stamp duty to the extent that they apply to the companies in the group for which tax responsibility held.
- Knowledge of US tax code in respect of reinsurance businesses.
- Knowledge of the tax aspects of US NAIC, UK GAAP and IFRS.
- Develops understanding of the key concepts which drive regulation within our markets.
- Ability to progress idea/solution by undertaking extra tasks proactively.
- Builds and develops strong relationships with staff, peers and other contacts within the business.
- Experience of providing tax advice and be able to explain tax technical issues in a clear and concise way to non-tax experts.
