You'll join a team of multidisciplinary engineers working to solve challenging problems in geospatial, healthcare, disaster response, and transportation. We're a small company with big roles, and you'll be able to make an impact on day one.
We're looking for someone who can take an idea from concept to finished product. You’ll be developing systems that require complex user interaction and fast, responsive interfaces. You’ll work closely with other engineers to ensure that proper technologies and best practices are in place to deliver an optimal user experience. As a UI/UX Front-End Engineer at Element 84, you’ll have an opportunity to shape the design and development of key client projects. You'll influence internal design practices and front-end development methodologies, and contribute to open source software projects.
Here are examples of things you might be working on:
- Build user flows and wireframes for tasking Earth observation satellites.
- Create a modular front-end design system for an oceanographic data portal.
- Build an open-source React framework for quickly implementing Leaflet-based map interfaces.
- Design and build a data dashboard for exploring regional water security issues.
- Extend and customize common CSS frameworks to create a front-end component library to promote organizational design consistency.
- Improve workflows and user interfaces for helping scientists and researchers find and use Earth science datasets and products.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant experience in software and application development.
- Expert in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Strong visual and user interface design skills.
- Experience with Figma, Figjam, Sketch or Adobe Suite.
- Experience with design systems and comfort working with shared codebases.
- Experience with React or other front-end Javascript frameworks.
- Experience with Git and build tools like Vite and Webpack.
- Cloud experience, AWS preferred
- Basic understanding of programming languages and frameworks like Python, and Node.js.
- Ability to independently explore and evaluate different tooling options and open-source solutions, considering factors like stability, popularity, and suitability for the project's requirements.
- Outstanding all-round communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and proficiently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or similar field of study from an accredited university preferred (will consider equivalent professional experience in lieu of degree).
- Experience with mapping and geospatial front-end development (Leaflet, Mapbox, GeoJSON, STAC)
- Familiarity with UI/UX design discovery, including user research, workshop facilitation, capturing requirements, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and performance metrics, to deliver user-centric solutions.
