Each day U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) oversees the massive flow of people, capital, and products that enter and depart the United States via air, land, sea, and cyberspace. The volume and complexity of both physical and virtual border crossings require the application of “big data” solutions to promote efficient trade and travel. Further, effective “big data” solutions help CBP ensure the movement of people, capital, and products is legitimate, safe, and secure.
The strongest applicants will offer multiple years of experience in highly dynamic, threat/risk driven operating environments. They will also have a proven track record of delivering production ready decision support tools and applications employed in the field and by mission-support entities. Further, highly competitive applicants will have a demonstrated capacity to: work closely and collaboratively with mission stakeholders; respond to emergent, mission-driven changes in priorities and expected outcomes; and, apply new and emerging tools and techniques.
Key Responsibilities: We are looking for someone who is an expert in UI design, UX design, and front-end development to join our growing company. You will be natural at understanding human-computer interaction design (HCID), in coming up with elegant solutions to improve our application, and in developing on (tech stack: e.g., a modern JavaScript framework)
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and deconstruct our users’ digital interactions and habits.
- Come up with UI and UX strategies based on our target goals.
- Create and maintain digital assets, such as interface design files, wireframes, and interactive mockups using (Design and prototyping tools: e.g., Sketch and InVision)
- Design, build, and maintain highly reusable JavaScript, HTML and CSS code.
- Understand the limitations of our tech stack and business model and provide technical advice wherever necessary.
Knowledge & Experience:
- 7+ years of experience working and developing applications in modern JavaScript libraries such as Vue, React, and Angular.
- A portfolio or live examples of code produced.
- Knowledge of pre-processors/transpilers such as PUG/SCSS/Babel.
- Experience working with NodeJS.
- Experience with GIT and familiarity with code versioning practices on large teams, i.e., branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, etc.
- Experience with C# or .NET technologies would be helpful but not required
- Proficient with image authoring tools like Photoshop or Illustrator.
- Proficient with wireframing/design tools like Mock Plus, Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD.
- A portfolio that demonstrates both JavaScript proficiency and understanding of SOLID design principles (plugins, node packages, etc.).
- Expert knowledge of CSS, CSS extension languages (Less, Sass), and CSS preprocessor tools.
- Expert knowledge of HTML5 and its best practices.
- Proficiency in designing interfaces and building clickable prototypes using (Sketch, InVision, Axure, etc)
- Proficiency in using Git version control.
- Proficiency using the command line.
Technical Skills/Abilities:
- 7+ years’ experience as a front-end developer.
- 7+ years’ experience as a UI/UX designer.
- 7+ years of experience writing semantic-accessible HTML and CSS (Flex/Grid/CSS Custom Properties/CSS Functions/Scalable CSS) utilizing BEM naming methodology.
- 7+ years of experience writing/working with modern JavaScript (ESNext), including working with features such as Module Syntax and native Web Components.
Formal Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
