About the team

The Treasury Accounting Team is responsible for supporting all cash, investment, and financial activities at Stripe, consulting on accounting implications, and supporting Stripe’s ability to make informed strategic decisions. Our dynamic team is expanding, and we’re looking for an experienced accountant to support our goals of scaling for the future. We operate in a fast-paced environment and collaborate significantly with cross-functional and international teams.  

What you’ll do

Stripe builds the economic infrastructure for the internet. We handle hundreds of billions of dollars each year and enable millions of users around the world to scale faster and more efficiently by building their businesses on Stripe. To further this important mission, we are seeking a Treasury Accountant who has expertise in financial instrument hedging and investment valuation to support accounting for our internal Treasury initiatives. Stripe’s Accounting team is a global organization with Stripes in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Dublin, Singapore and Bangalore India.  This role reports to the Treasury Accounting Lead.

This person will ideally have relevant experience with various areas of accounting including financial instruments, investments, hedge accounting, letters of credit, foreign currency, consolidation, and valuation concepts. The candidate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the financial, statutory, and internal reporting processes, financial systems, internal controls, and business support. This person would also be responsible for advising on accounting and reporting requirements with reference to authoritative guidance. In this role, you will partner with our global Accounting, Finance, Financial Systems, Regulatory/Compliance Legal and Tax teams.

Ideally this person will have both public accounting and industry experience in tech or financial service industries, as well as experience working for companies with a high volume of complex transactions and issues. This role will be based in Seattle.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assist with all financial instrument hedge and investment portfolio accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accounting memos in accordance with US GAAP
  • Prepare monthly review and analysis related to investments, derivatives, and foreign exchange fluctuations in our financial statements
  • Develop and maintain technical accounting policies and procedural documentation related to internal financial activities activities, including letters of credit, hedge accounting, and investment valuation
  • Advise internal treasury finance team on accounting implications of treasury strategies 
  • Plan and perform monthly and quarterly close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations, variance analyses and analytical reviews, producing internal management reporting and external audit support
  • Partner with Internal Systems, Treasury, Tax and Legal to support internal projects process improvements and automation 
  • Design, implement and execute efficient internal control procedures
  • Automate, streamline and re-design processes to develop the most effective and accurate booking of transactions and reconciliations.
  • Participate in building scalable accounting processes to support global growth
  • Support internal and external audit requests

Minimum requirements

  • A bachelors degree in Accounting, supported by 7-10 years of experience, preferably in the financial services or tech
  • Expertise in U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements (CPA required)

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with investment, financial instrument, and hedge accounting
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated team player who brings a can-do approach
  • Comfortable managing through ambiguous situations with the flexibility to constantly adapt in a fast paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and SQL (preferred), with experience working with large data sets
  • Experience with software Reval, Clearwater, and Oracle Financials Cloud (preferred)
