 About the Role

We’re looking for our first Total Rewards Program Manager to design and execute compensation and benefits programs and products to attract and retain top talent across OpenAI. In this role, you’ll build zero-to-one programs and products in partnership with Total Rewards Leadership, act as a key stakeholder manager, and drive the implementation of initiatives with precision and accountability.

This strategic position will partner with business leaders, HR, Legal, Finance, Recruiting and our broader Total Rewards team to ensure our compensation and benefit strategies align with business objectives and talent needs. This role manages operationalizing, delivery and change management roll out for global, employee-facing programs and products where high quality executing is paramount. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Program Management Design & Execution: Develop and implement a comprehensive program management playbook for complex and critical Total Rewards programs and products.

  • Stakeholder Management: Partner with cross-functional teams, including HR, finance, and business leaders, to align Total Rewards programs with organizational objectives.

  • Ownership & Accountability: Manage deadlines, track progress, and ensure delivery of Total Rewards projects with a sense of urgency and ownership.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage tools, data and real-time feedback to tailor, adjust and execute strategy

  • Communication & Collaboration: Clearly articulate program details, processes, and outcomes to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment and buy-in.

  • Information Gathering: Proactively chase down information, resolve blockers, and maintain progress in fast-paced, complex projects.

  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor the effectiveness of current programs and recommend improvements to align with changing business needs and industry trends.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • 4-6 years of experience in program management; Total Rewards exposure a strong plus.

  • Proven track record of building and scaling zero-to-one program management strategies for multiple deadlines and competing priorities.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with a focus on clear communication, collaboration, and driving consensus.

  • Analytical mindset with expertise in using data to inform decision-making and program design.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Familiarity with Total Rewards structures and practices.

  • Experience working with rapidly scaling organizations.

  • Sophisticated experience in building content, materials, communications and presentations.

Location and Workplace

This role is based in our Mission Bay, San Francisco office. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office with optional work from home on Thursdays and Fridays. We also offer relocation assistance to new employees.

Our open-plan offices have height-adjustable desks, conference rooms, phone booths, well-stocked kitchens full of snacks and drinks, three in-house prepared meals daily, outdoor space for working and socializing, wellness rooms, private bike storage, and more.
