We’re seeking a Therapeutic Target Discovery Biologist to help us in our mission to revolutionize drug discovery through the use of breakthrough computational methods applied to drug design.
Our drug discovery group of over 80 scientists includes biologists, structural biologists, modelers, computational chemists, medicinal chemists, and crystallographers and software developers and engineers. Schrödinger has co-founded several biotech companies leading to exciting therapeutics and approaches, such as Nimbus (recent TYK2i acquisition by Takeda), Morphic Therapeutic (Phase 2 first-in-modality integrin inhibitor for IBD), and Structure Therapeutics (structure-based GPCR company). Four of the programs Schrödinger has worked on in the past seven years have progressed into the clinic and one has received FDA approval.
As a member of our Therapeutics Group, you’ll bring your passion for identifying, reviewing and proposing therapeutic opportunities to address unmet medical needs. Your research experience in immune, cardiovascular, and/or metabolic disease biology and track record of goal-oriented, innovative and collaborative research, demonstrated through drug discovery project achievements or high impact peer-reviewed publications, will make you an asset in our efforts to champion target opportunities for Schrödinger’s growing pipeline.
Please submit a cover letter answering the following questions.
- Which area of biology are you most interested in?
- What is something you learned recently about that topic?
Who will love this job:
- A creative scientist who enjoys connecting basic biology to therapeutic opportunities to address unmet medical needs
- A self-motivated professional who prefers a mix of independent and team work
- A polymath who’s interested in drug discovery, life sciences, and biotech
- An excellent verbal and written communicator and organizer (synthesizing information from disparate sources and articulating key insights is a crucial part of this role!)
- A collaborator who excels in a multidisciplinary and rapidly-changing atmosphere that includes strategizers, structural biologists, and chemists (this is not a lab-based position)
What you’ll do:
- Conduct target analysis for new pipeline opportunities through multidisciplinary biology-driven approaches, including indication exploration, pathway mining, literature analysis, and human genetics
- Leverage data sources, platforms, and evidence vectors across orthogonal methods to generate compelling analysis to support target identification and analysis
- Perform target reviews to assess target validation, connection to disease pathophysiology, and mechanistic potential within an indication space
- Collaborate with subject matter experts in disease area biology, human genetics, structural biology, and competitive intelligence to position opportunities for Schrödinger’s pipeline
- Contribute to early stage drug discovery projects based on interest and skill fit
What you should have:
- A PhD in biology, with three to five years of experience as a postdoc or in industry
- Subject matter expertise in cell or molecular biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, or related life sciences field with research experience related to immune, cardiovascular and/or metabolic disease biology
