About the Team: 

The Factory Test team is responsible for all hazardous testing in our Long Beach facilities. We use our breadth of experience and collaborative engineering approach to support everything from very large structural tests to precise valve actuation. To that end, we design, build, and operate all test assets from initial concept to test execution. If you enjoy working on a multi-disciplinary team with a broad mandate and want to put hands-on hardware, then this is the team for you.  

What you’ll do: 

  • Create Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for test fluids systems 
  • Specify valves, instrumentation, and other components for test fluids systems 
  • Perform 1 dimensional fluids analysis using hand calcs and software tools 
  • Design piping and flange layouts and analyze for stress 
  • Create shop drawings & work instructions, and oversee fabrication of the systems you design 
  • Participate in test day operations 

Past intern projects (just a few examples!) 

  • Tested flight quick disconnects 
  • Designed and built a Thrust Vector Controller test stand 
  • Designed, built, and operated the Ox bleed disconnect test stand 
  • Designed and built a hydrostatic pressurization system for rocket tank testing 
  • Designed, integrated, and fabricated infrastructure to help run tests more often and more efficiently 

Skills/Competencies we're looking for: 

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student earning degree in aerospace, mechanical, or chemical engineering, or other related field 
  • Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and common instrumentation 
  • Hands-on project experience strongly desired, but not required.

$31$38 USD
