Test Engineer, Quantum Hardware

Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art. 

We are seeking a motivated and organized Test Engineer to join an existing integrated multi-disciplinary engineering team building advanced test systems in support of HRL’s world-leading silicon quantum dot technologies. The individual will be responsible for the development of a wide variety of specialized electrical test systems and components. The candidate will interface with designers, engineers, and scientists to understand qubit test metrics, evaluate test system performance, generate test plans, and guide designs for electronic components, subsystems, and systems that will test and evaluate a variety of electrical devices. 

Essential Duties: 
•Oversee development of test plans and hardware, evaluate laboratory data, and perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and debugging of electrical components and test systems.
•Design, develop, and implement characterization and test solutions for in-house and 3rd party components.
•Collaborate with quantum device measurement scientists and engineers to understand qubit test requirements.
•Understand system level designs, technical specifications of instruments, and working principles of low noise electrical measurements.  
•Work with teams within HRL to develop test systems through simulation, modeling, and analysis of laboratory data.
•Produce engineering documentation including verification and test plans, troubleshooting methodologies, and root cause corrective analysis.

Required Skills:
•Experience in laboratory or manufacturing environment involving electronics component development, verification, testing, and debugging.
•Strong working knowledge of electrical engineering including electronic circuits and circuit simulation, low noise measurements, automated test equipment (ATE), and laboratory test equipment.
•Familiarity with scientific programming languages (C, C++, MATLAB, Python, or similar) required.
•Ability to work well in a creative team environment, possess excellent communication skills, and have willingness to train / mentor others.
•Ability to spend long periods of time at a computer monitor, and ability to travel.

Required Education:
•Minimum of BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
•Additional experience may be considered for more advanced positions.

Special Requirements:
•U.S. Citizenship is required. 
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $74,300 - $89,100 + bonus + benefits. 

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for the position. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
