Technical Writer (manufacturing)

: Position has responsibility for end-to-end management of safety, operational, maintenance, and spare parts manuals. Create documentation which clarifies product features and benefits. Provide high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our products, services, and customers. Work collaboratively with engineering, assembly, service and other equipment experts to document the proper way to operate and maintain our equipment to ensure that our products are safer and easier to use.

  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product, our services, and the documentation requirements.
  • Create, or update, a Safety, Operation, Maintenance, and Spare Parts manual for each type of machine that is produced by the KW/Syntegon.
  • Provide manuals and updates for legacy equipment when ordered or modernized.
  • Responsible for maintenance of existing manuals.
  • Coordinates language translation for manuals as required.
  • Create tutorials to help end-users operate a variety of applications.
  • Understand complex technical concepts and explain them with easily understandable photos and text.
  • Develop innovative illustrations (using photographs, SolidWorks or other illustrations) to help the customer understand the functionality and operation of all parts of their new equipment.
  • Attend Production meetings (scheduling, FATs, etc…) to determine if there is a need to revise manuals to reflect Customer, or Production, driven changes.
  • Maintain historical records of manuals developed for each machine shipped.
  • Review the Bill-of-Materials (BOM) and make sure that the drawing package is clear and complete.
  • Create setup sheets for each product format.
  • Coordinate and deliver manuals in accordance with the sales order (i.e. format and quantity).
  • Maintain tracking information for the manuals sent for future reference. 
  • Create forms for Production, Part Sales Service, ect.
  • Convert files, as necessary, to PDF format
  • Assist with the development of other promotional material as needed (i.e. photo collages, posters, banners, Illustrations, animations, brochures, etc...)
  • Contribute and be responsible to the Safety, Quality, and Environmental awareness throughout the organization.

Carry out other duties as assigned

Required: 

  • A 4-year degree in a Engineering, Technical or writing field.
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience with technical writing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Solid computer proficiency - proficient in AutoCad, Solidworks, 3 Diva, eDrawings, and SAP.
  • Advanced level word-processing and spreadsheet skills in Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficient in Adobe programs including Acrobat, Illustration, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Additional information

The expected compensation range for this position is between $70,0000 - $95,000 based on a full-time schedule.

Compensation for roles at Syntegon varies depending on a wide array of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skill set, and level of relevant experience. At Syntegon compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Total rewards at Syntegon include salary + bonus (if applicable) + benefits.
