Cool things you’ll do

MongoDB is on a mission to change the way people think about databases. Along the way, our customers encounter questions and issues about how our approach to databases works for their use case. In Technical Services, it's our job to help these people.

You'll be primarily working alongside a handful of our largest enterprise customers - building a relationship, intimately guiding their use of MongoDB products and services, coordinating the resolution of their complex issues. You'll be an expert resource on best practices in running MongoDB at scale, whatever that scale may be. You'll be an advocate for customers' needs - interfacing with our product management and development teams on their behalf. 

 

What you need

You should have 5+ years of database industry experience deploying and managing operational production databases at scale both on premise and in the cloud. We encourage you to apply even if you’ve never used MongoDB before. We consider all candidates with an eye for those who are self-taught, insatiably curious, and multi-faceted.

Your customers could be anywhere between Australia to India, so it is important that you are open to the possibility of swing shifts after your ramping period to align with the majority of customers’ operating hours. 

It’s crucial for every candidate that they can check off at least 50% of these boxes:

  • Understanding and experience with Cloud architectures specifically: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Customer management - passionate about being in a customer-facing technical role, showcasing ownership of success’s technical success and prioritization of customer work
  • Stakeholder management- ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner with various stakeholders on matters important to them internally and externally, ability to influence decisions and to calibrate communication style based on the audience
  • Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting
  • Should have a good understanding of Networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS etc.)
  • Genuine desire to help people
  • Ability to think on your feet, remain calm under pressure, and solve problems in real-time
  • Desire and ability to rapidly learn a wide variety of new technical skills
  • Strong teamwork: 
    • willingness and ability to get help from team members when required, and the good judgment to know when to seek help
    • Ability to work independently as well as cross-functionally to ensure customer needs are being met

Bonus Points

  • Industry certifications such as RedHat Certified Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or other related subjects.
  • Fundamental understanding of MongoDB, or other databases (for example, ElasticSearch, MySQL, Postgres). 
  • Previous application support experience.
  • Fluency in a foreign language, especially Spanish, Japanese, or Mandarin. 

 

Success Measures

  • In 3 months, you’ll have gained a deep understanding of MongoDB and its ecosystem. You will complete New Hire Training.
  • In 6 months, you will be comfortable working frontline with our customers. You will also complete the MongoDB Certified DBA Associate exam.
  • Within 6-12 months, you will be a part of the Premium Services team within Technical Services and you will be expected to be the primary point of contact for customers and be managing their technical work independently.
