Technical .Net Engineering Lead   
Job Purpose:         
We are looking for a Technical .Net Engineering Lead to provide technical architectural leadership for our .NET  team in Durham, NC. This person will be the “anchor” for our agile teams, providing overview management and mentoring for senior team members and being the local point of contact for other sites while helping shape the structure of our broader software organisation. While not fully “hands on”, this role requires relevant technical experience (able to write code and demonstrate strong architectural design) building modern agile systems and high performing teams. 
   
Ideal candidates for this role will have significant (15+ years) professional experience, including people and technical leadership, preferably in more than one stack.    

Responsibilities

  • Supervise coding and testing standards in .NET /Python and other web technology projects while mentoring others on improvements to the current implementation.
  • Contribute to Engineering leadership including architecture, data and development practices, and their prioritisation.
  • Hire and promote staff to ensure our teams are industry leading.
  • Be the main point of contact in Durham, NC for system status and workstream schedules.
  • Deeply committed to promoting continuous improvement, refactoring, TDD and pair programming to achieve technical excellence and support long-term customer value.
  • Expert working in agile teams, promoting incremental and iterative development to cope with uncertainty and maintain flow.
  • Reviewing code and architecture of significant projects and supporting teams in improving their design and development skills.
  • Collaborate with end-users, business analysts and quality assurance, while playing a mentoring role in planning and user story development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues (including vendor teams) and advising on ways to improve agile skills and practices.
  • Occasionally lead planning meetings, and BA/QA/Dev refinements sessions to question, refine and size user stories to enable them for development.
  • Understand the importance of code refactoring (and when and how to apply it) and technical debt to maintain system quality.
  • System support in appropriate time-zones.
  • Acquiring deep expertise in the domain.
  • Limited travel for regular team meet-ups.

Core Skills

  • 15+ years’ experience in C#.NET (Framework 4.x or Core/Standard), with other similar technologies and languages.
  • 15+ years’ experience in developer automated testing (unit, functional and beyond).
  • 15+ years’ experience in related industries – Logistics is ideal but platform-heavy businesses like Retail/Banking/Insurance are also relevant.
  • Advanced Agile mindset & XP development practices: Refactoring, Pair programming, TDD, BDD, CI/CD, Evolutionary System Architecture.
  • Exposure to designing and building software systems using object-oriented and event-driven approaches in a domain-driven design paradigm.
  • Strong engineering discipline particularly in the use of version control using git.
  • Promoter of self-managing teams, building agreement and helping everyone perform well together.
  • Experience supporting live systems.
  • Flexible attitude willing to embrace rapid change.
  • Team player with high standards, including collaboration with vendor teams.
  • Good communicator with proven ability to work well with users and senior management.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused when prioritizing competing demands.
