Technical Lead - ML Engineering - Natural Language Processing (Remote)

We are looking for a Technical Lead - ML Engineering to join our growing R&D team! Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will run our end-to-end machine learning platform, from research to production ML models. You are well-versed in the nuances of the machine learning lifecycle and have a clear approach to measuring the improvement of our ML systems and their peers' workflows. The technical lead role is a unique expansion of the scope of a Senior ML engineer that takes on multiple facets of technical leadership, team building, and building our technical roadmap. You can expect to collaborate with your ML teammates and folks from MLOps, Data, and Science teams.

BenchSci is a remote-first organization. At this moment, we are welcoming applicants from Canada, the US and the UK for this position. 

You Will:

  • Design, build, evaluate and deploy robust, scalable, and production-ready ML models that enhance the speed and quality of life-saving research
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager and other Tech Leads to recruit and build the team
  • Lead or consult the authoring of engineering design proposals following the unified Platform Stream roadmap at BenchSci
  • Drive core components of our technical roadmap
  • Facilitate and make technical decisions in forums
  • Help define best practices based on personal industry experience and research across the Machine Learning team
  • Lead sprint planning, estimations, and code + design reviews
  • Oversee the solutions and long-term technology investments to inspire technical creativity at BenchSci

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience working as a professional developer applying machine learning techniques to solve business problems
  • Experience with Python and programming fundamentals
  • Experience with NLP (ideally including NER) and PyTorch
  • Experience with designing, building, and evaluating scalable production-ready ML models
  • Experience with complex problem solving and an eye for details such as scalability and performance of a potential solution
  • Experience with data manipulation and processing, such as SQL or pandas
  • Experience with building functional, production-level models in the cloud
  • Experience with planning projects
  • A desire to see teammates succeed together
