Oklo is hiring a

Technical Editor & Licensing Assistant

Independence, United States

Thanks for your interest in Oklo!  We are searching for a Technical Editor & Regulatory Coordinator to join our team.

Position Description

The Technical Editor or Licensing Assistant position is responsible for editing highly specialized technical and regulatory information developed by the engineering and licensing organizations. This position ensures all materials meet established writing and formatting guidance to ensure messaging is concise and clear, with consistent appearance and content. Documents for review may range from brief, formal letters to lengthy technical reports, with a focus on regulatory technical editing. Regulatory technical editing entails reviewing for content and messaging, fact checking, and cross-referencing complex regulatory documents, all at a high level of quality. However, it could also include editing externally facing documentation more broadly.

This role may also include facilitating regulatory communications (e.g., setting up meetings, tracking deadlines, putting together presentation materials and meeting agendas). This role has the potential to grow, including handling regulatory interactions or responses with external stakeholders (e.g., Nuclear Energy Institute, U.S. Nuclear Industry Council, Nuclear Innovation Alliance). Experience working at a regulatory agency is a plus but not required.

Prioritization will be given to those who meet the bonus qualifications.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Editing and proofreading technical and regulatory content: license applications, technical reports, project plans, formal letters, etc.
  • Collaborating with internal engineering and regulatory teams to ensure document accuracy
  • Developing presentation materials for meetings with a variety of stakeholders, primarily focused on regulatory topics
  • Setting up and coordinating meetings with internal and external personnel
  • Managing multiple complex schedules and calendars
  • Coordinating projects of various size

Competencies

We are looking for a Technical Editor or Licensing Assistant that is:

  • Passionate about clean energy
  • Passionate about making advanced fission a reality
  • Willing and able to learn quickly
  • Eager to work on a dynamic team, receive constructive feedback, and grow with us
  • Willing to think differently and do things in new ways
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, highly iterative startup environment
  • Detail oriented
  • An excellent writer who can write in active voice (so make your cover letter compelling and write it well!)

Who you are:

A startup person: You aren't driven by titles or hierarchy and prefer efficiency to excess process. You don't need or expect to have a lot of guidance but you enjoy working in a fast-paced team. If you prefer the culture and feel of a large organization, that is great, but you likely won’t enjoy working with us! There is plenty of important work and plenty of good opportunities with organizations like that.

Motivated: You are self-motivated. You bring an enthusiasm to the team and imbue a sense of passion that goes beyond clocking in and clocking out. This isn’t about a fake or arbitrary “pieces of flair” mentality or lack of work-life balance! It is about being a part of the vision and feeling a part of reaching team goals.

A team-player: Oklo genuinely is a team. We aren’t about taking credit for ourselves, and we aren’t about pushing blame to others. We do incredible things because we work as a team.

An excellent communicator: We need a person who is not only technically competent but also a clear and upbeat communicator.

Creative: Being creative means that when things fall outside clear scopes or processes or problems arise without clear solutions, you are able to identify it as well as invent ways to solve a problem or fill a need without micromanagement. The successful person in this job will not only be creative, but also enjoy being creative and solving open-ended problems which may change day-by-day.

Detail-oriented: This focus is a big part of excellence, consistency, and quality. Excellent grammar and spelling matter for both good communication as well as the image of the company that we put forward.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience; more experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically in Microsoft Word
  • Superior editing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex engineering and regulatory documentation to ensure clear and concise communication
  • Strong organizational skills, project execution skills, and detail orientation
  • Ability to work on technical topics and ask relevant editorial questions about technical content

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience as a technical editor in the nuclear industry, or in an equivalent heavily regulated or technical industry
  • Experience supporting the development and review of U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission document transmittals
  • Familiarity or experience with regulations and licensing associated with nuclear power
  • Familiarity with consensus codes and standards
  • Proficiency in navigating the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Agencywide Documents Access and Management (ADAMS) system or other sources for record retrieval and validation
