Technical Designer

Thinking through making, it’s what we do.  We’re looking for people who care about the details, understand that design matters and love figuring things out using CAD, shop tools and ingenuity.  The Technical Designer is part of a highly collaborative cross-functional mockup and prototype development team that facilitates the implementation of industrial and mechanical design concepts.  The Technical Designer should understand the role mockups and prototypes play in the design development process and be familiar with the build approach to a wide variety of use cases.  In this position you’ll work alongside some of the best and brightest talent at Teague, able to execute on any design challenge, from large-scale conceptual environments and brand experiences to the small intricate details of mechanical mockups. You’ll be working on projects defining the human experience for the next generation of products in commercial air and space travel, autonomous vehicles, and all sorts of mobility.

Who We’re Looking For 

You are creative, technically savvy, highly disciplined and flexible. You also have a keen interest in how the user experience is evolving in travel and mobility on a global scale.  If that’s the case, this might just be your dream job.  As the Technical Designer, you get to put your creative talents to work communicating mockup design ideas and concepts through sketches, graphic presentation software and 3D CAD.  You will also generate mockup documentation packages and detailed part and assembly drawings. You work closely with Industrial Design, Mechanical Design and Technical Build staff, you’re happy to coordinate and support the fabrication of mockup components either in house or through vendors. You also know your way around a shop environment and can jump in to help with fabrication, assembly and installation activities.  You have the technical knowledge and discipline to work effectively with Teague’s data management system and adhere to budgetary, timing and scope constraints. In addition, you have a solid grasp of manufacturing processes and are capable of identifying and selecting the best raw materials for a given project. What We Just Said, Now in 5 Bullet Points (a.k.a. Essential Qualifications): 

  • Experience: Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in the field of Industrial Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience, and 5 years experience in a design for build/prototyping environment.  
  • Special skills: SolidWorks, data management, comfortable working in a shop, basic understanding of mockup construction techniques. Effective verbal and written communication skills coupled with an intense ability to listen and ensure others are heard. 
  • Passion: Learning and exploration, technical problem solving, good design, and working in CAD as well as with your hands.   
  • Role: Designing how to construct technical and complex design ideas into tangible assets. 
  • Personality: Collaborative, creative, detail-oriented, flexible, organized, knows when to be focused and when to relax and have fun.  

 

This role is non-exempt and pays hourly, including overtime. The salary range for this job in most US geographic locations is $32.21-$48.08/hour.
