At NEC Software Solutions our Technical Architects undertake many diverse activities creating technical architecture designs for corporate and customer solutions, collaborating with internal stakeholders designing solutions to their complex problems, maintaining and evolving existing solutions and much more.
Technical Architecture work is a combination of technical design, consultancy and guidance, combined with hands-on implementation. As NEC business units embrace agile and DevOps based software development and delivery models, and look to adopt Public Cloud capabilities, our Technical Architects are pivotal members of the multidisciplinary teams required to achieve effective outcomes.
The Technical Architect will join the central architecture and design team, which comprises a diverse group of architects working across enterprise, security, technical and solution architecture domains.
We are looking for candidates with proven experience producing technical architecture designs within small and medium sized enterprise environments.
Responsibilities will include:
- Produce technical architecture designs meeting business requirements within the overarching architecture framework.
- Participate in the technical architecture design peer review process to ensure the high quality of all designs produced by the wider central architecture team.
- Present technical architecture designs to the technical assurance board and support the technical assurance process based on specialist knowledge and experience.
- Support the implementation of technical architecture designs, provide knowledge transfer to support teams and hands-on support where necessary.
- Undertake evaluation of architecture and design options making recommendations to stakeholders that ensure functional and non-functional requirements are met.
- Support the technology roadmap process undertaking and presenting investigations related to new and existing technologies enabling controlled introduction of technology adoption.
- Undertake continuous learning to maintain knowledge of the key technologies in use by NEC, emerging technology trends, and industry standards to support business innovation through intelligent use of IT.
Our central architecture and design team can definitely help anyone develop their own practice - but there are some essential skills that we need you to have in order to hit the ground running in this role.
- Proven experience producing technical architecture designs within a small to medium enterprise environment.
- Proven understanding of non-functional requirements and their impact on technical architecture design.
- Demonstrates a good working knowledge of end user, compute, networking, storage technologies, including desktop and server virtualisation technologies, network switches and firewalls, perimeter boundary protection, and SANs.
- Strong awareness of security to ensure that technical designs provide sufficient protection for workloads.
If you have the above experience, we’re off to a pretty good start, additionally any of the experience below would be beneficial - but we can also help you along the way to develop your skills and gain experience:
- Experience designing and implementing solutions deployed to a multi-tenanted community cloud platform.
- Experience designing and implementing solutions deployed to public cloud platforms.
- Experience of a subset of the core NEC technologies:
- Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows, Oracle Solaris, Linux.
- Server Virtualisation: VMware vSphere, Oracle OVM for x86 or Oracle OVM for Sparc.
- Networking: Cisco Switches, Cisco Firewalls, Palo Alto Firewalls.
- Storage: Netapp SANs.
- Backup: Dell IDPA, HP Data Protector.
- Public Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Oracle OCI.
- Experience designing and delivering solutions within the UK Government domain.
- Familiarity with compliance & security standards across the enterprise IT landscape such as ISO 27001 and NCSC Cyber Essentials.
- Familiarity with ITIL service management principles & tools, and their use in an enterprise environment.

- Candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre-existing right to work and travel within the UK. Documentary evidence will be required.

This position requires you to either currently have national security vetting clearance at the Security Check (SC) level or higher, Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) Level 3, or the ability to gain Enhanced Security Clearance in addition to the Baseline Personnel Security Standard.
