The Opportunity: 

We are looking for Versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale.  As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of powerful payment technology, you will get to see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.   

The Work itself: 

  • Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability 
  • Collaborate multi-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings 
  • Actively contribute to product quality improvements, valuable service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads 
  • Develop robust and scalable products intended for a myriad of customers including end-user merchants, b2b, and business to government solutions. 
  • Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Payment Services, Transaction Platforms, Post Purchase product, Real-Time Payments, and Buy Now Pay Later Technology 
  • Opportunities to make a difference on a global or local scale through mentorship and continued learning opportunities 

Essential Functions:

  • Leading the software engineering team to develop, test and document software programs 

  • Coaching and mentoring developers 

  • Developing micro services using Java, Sprint boot, Kafka and MySQL.          

  • Works with product owners/managers to gather and refine requirements, adding and taking into account existing tools and solutions across departments. 

  • Breaking down architected solution into smaller achievable tasks 

  • Analyzing business requirements and providing solution that is robust, scalable, and resilient 

  • Enforcing software best practices, standards, and processes throughout the system development life cycle to support the development of engineering applications and products 

  • Participating in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software 

  • Performing code reviews to verify changes meet development requirements and deploying and staging code in development environments 

  • Developing database queries, or code that generates queries and fixes bugs found in existing codebases 

  • Producing highly scalable, high performing applications 

  • Participate in daily stand-ups and work with the delivery team to improve productivity by leveraging development and quality metrics. 

  • Work alongside our US-based team, coordinating efforts and maintaining effective communication.

**We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance, we have exciting team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but didn’t work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications 

  • BS in Computer Science or related field, ideally 10+ years related experience or any combination of education and experience, which would be provide an equivalent background.  

  • 2+ years of experience in leading software engineering team and mentoring developers 

  • Desire to work with and share new and innovative ideas, constantly expanding your knowledge 

  • Analytical, strong organization and planning skills 

  • Ability to work on complex technical and business problems while creative solutions 

  • The following required technical experience:  

  • 8+ experience with Core Java and Java web application development for RESTful web services 

  • 7+ years of strong knowledge w/ Spring Framework, Sprint boot and Build Tools, such as Maven 

  • Strong working knowledge with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Data, JPA, JDBC, and event-driven programming using Kafka. 

  • Proficient in OOP Design, multi-threading, and experienced with design patterns. 

  • 3+ working knowledge in Reactive and Event drive programming using Kafka  

  • 7+ of strong knowledge in accessing data using Spring Data, JPA and JDBC 

  • Strong OOP Design Skills and experience with design patterns 

  • 5+ years of practical experience in Agile process, especially with Scrum. 

  • Good knowledge in multi-threading and concurrency 

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills. 

  • Experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders, preferably including teams based in the US. 

  • Highly preferred experience, but not required:  

  • Experience with CI/CD using Jenkins , Docker, Kubernetes 

  • Working with Checkmarx, Qualys and similar code/system scanners and remediation for security focused development knowledge and experience in AI/ML is a plus.
