Team Leader

Kepak St. Merryn in Merthyr Tydfil has combined beef and lamb processing and packing facilities. We offer beef and lamb products ranging from retail ready cuts for butchers’ counters to branded packaged meat, all as part of our service; raised on open pastures, sourced from local farmers and hand-selected by our master butchers, we produce beef and lamb products with integrity and unmatched quality assurance.

We are currently recruiting for Team Leaders to work in our busy factory.

We have two positions available:

Shift 1 = Full time-6.00am to 6.30pm-3 days on/3 days off-salary of £30,000 per annum.

Shift 2 = Full time-3.30pm to 1.00am-Monday to Friday-salary of £30,000 per annum.

Working as part of a team, the Team Leader will perform an integral role within the CPM (Retail Packing) Department assuming responsibility for the delivery of the production plan through effective management of people, product and process and will do so in line with company, customer and legislative requirements.

Requirements

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Maintaining a safe and efficient working environment for all production line team members, while upholding food safety protocols and ensuring product quality.
  • Managing and strictly adhering to all risk mitigation measures, and taking accountability the safety of team members.
  • Ensuring operational compliance in terms of performance, food safety, quality, and health & safety.
  • Promoting a culture of operational excellence by actively supporting company policies and lean initiatives.
  • Challenging operational standards related to performance, food safety, quality, and health & safety to drive continuous improvement.
  • Escalating problems in a timely manner and providing solutions when appropriate.
  • Upholding and promoting the company values of teamwork, responsibility, ambition, and passion for food.
  • Communicating downtime issues to the Engineering Manager/Supervisor and keeping Production Shift Managers and Supervisors informed.
  • Ensuring effective lines of communication with Team Leaders, Production Shift Managers, WIP Management, and Planning.
  • Assisting the Production Shift Manager with customer, 3rd party, and supplier visits within the Production Halls.
  • Accurately monitoring, recording, communicating, and delivering all key production metrics, including plan attainment, batch control, yield, direct labour costs, product quality, SIC Boards, daily huddle meetings, PULSE 1 shop floor meetings, stock control, staff training and development, GMP compliance, line setup readiness, and health & safety.
  • Investigate and correct deviations from key production metrics.
  • Challenge and support all CI (continuous improvement) initiatives within your own area of responsibility and the wider functions where appropriate and requested.
  • Provide honest /constructive input into annual PDR’s of operatives.
  • Report daily staff holidays and absence to the supervisor / Production shift manager.
  • CCP’s: Ensure any issues regarding CCP’s are highlighted immediately to the QA team and Supervisor.
  • Ensure all checks are completed at the required time intervals and to the required standard.
  • Ensure all documentation is logged correctly.
  • Ensure all product/batch is cleared from the end of line prior to the start of the next product/batch.
  • Escalation of any product quality issues to Supervisor and Shift Manager.
  • Monitoring of staff performance and escalation of any poor/ under performance.
  • Positive motivation of direct reports.
  • Ensure team are wearing PPE correctly and in line with training.
  • Ensure the company 'return to work' procedure is followed at all times.
  • Promote and participate constructively in all new agreed “ways of working” – daily PULSE meetings, SIC and where appropriate the PMR process and all KEPAK policy & procedures.
  • Manage the daily production function of the team particularly planned and unplanned changes and non-standard work.
  • Escalate any issues to the Supervisor to ensure restraints to production/ team work are dealt with in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure that Full Traceability is achieved for every batch of product through accurate recording of paperwork.
  • Escalation of issues at the SIC hourly check with the Supervisor or Shift Manager or other forums that require support in order to address.
  • Support the Supervisor in the implementation and improvement of procedures and processes to ensure required standards of work are met and adhered to.
  • Provide recommendations to training function for all line operators.
  • Proactively engage the Supervisor with ideas for personal development.
