About the Role:
We are looking for an engineering mindset which brings fresh ideas from various areas, including large-scale platform design, analytics, data structures, security practices, large-scale data retrieval and processing environments. As a Lead Engineer, you will be working closely with product managers, QA engineers, and designers, software engineers, and will be responsible for designing, building, deploying and scaling various products under the umbrella of CleverTap Platform.
In this role, you will lead and mentor your team, fostering a collaborative environment, managing project timelines, and ensuring high-quality deliverables. Strong people management skills, including team development, effective communication, and performance management, are essential for driving the success of your team and projects.
What will you do:
- Develop core services and libraries used across the organization, including internal tools for engineers, PMs, QAs, and other stakeholders
- Work closely with the infrastructure team to build essential platform components, such as CI/CD pipelines, metering, logging, and feature flags
- Engage with external vendors whose products are integrated into our internal systems to ensure smooth operations
- Oversee several projects simultaneously, managing transitions and maintaining consistent progress across all initiatives
- Identify, scope, and execute projects to improve engineers’ productivity by providing effective tools and solutions
- Write server code, optimize servers for performance and stability, implement security measures, create reusable code libraries, and develop data storage solutions
- Collaborate with the product team to define requirements, estimate delivery timelines for features, and document technical details for development
- Be the go-to expert for your team while building a strong, independent team capable of delivering high-quality projects reliably
What are we looking for?
Must have:
- 5 to 10 years of experience in back-end development, including designing, developing, testing, and deploying large-scale applications with Java
- Proven management experience leading teams of 5 or more, with demonstrated success in delivering results.
- Self-driven and proactive, with the ability to work independently and require minimal guidance
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to propose solutions, identify issues, and plan team activities with minimal supervision
- Excellent context-switching ability, with the capability to handle multiple projects and ad-hoc requests efficiently
- Experience in DevOps/SRE practices, including system-level knowledge and shell scripting.
- Solid experience with distributed programming and at least one major public cloud platform (GCP, Azure, or AWS).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to meet SLAs for response times
- Quick learner with solid critical thinking skills, able to adapt to new technologies and methodologies rapidly.- Passionate about technology and its impact on growth, with a keen interest in enhancing the productivity of engineering teams
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, providing support and resolving critical issues as needed
- Strong communication skills, capable of effectively collaborating with stakeholders and aligning on project goals.
- Leadership in high-pressure situations, demonstrating the ability to make critical decisions and lead effectively during challenging times
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and optimizing system performance
- Strategic thinking and vision, aligning team efforts with long-term organizational goals
Good to have:
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB, Redis, and AWS
- Java certification (OCJP or equivalent)
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Splunk
- Experience with authentication and authorization frameworks, specifically Auth0
- Expertise in CI/CD tooling, with experience using Jenkins, Bamboo, CircleCI, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with feature flag management platforms, such as LaunchDarkly
- Understanding of secrets management solutions, like HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, or Azure Key Vault
- Experience with cost optimization strategies, including cloud cost management tools like AWS Cost Explorer or CloudZero
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
- Understanding of networking fundamentals for troubleshooting and optimizing distributed systems
- Exposure to emerging technologies such as serverless architectures.
