A Career with Point72’s Tax Team
The Tax team conducts tax research and planning projects, and oversees Point72’s tax compliance for 30+ hedge funds, 75+ private equity and management companies, high net worth individuals, and tax-exempt organizations. The team manages all tax-related projects with external counsel, public accounting firms, and internally within Point72. The Tax team coordinates with Big Four accounting firms to prepare and review partnership, corporate, individual, international, and state returns. The team also invests significantly in technology to help automate its compliance process, and has partnered with the firm’s Tax Technology team to build out its own proprietary tax software system(s). .
Due to the complex structure of Point72, the successful candidate will gain broad exposure to a variety of projects within tax compliance, technology, and operations.
What you’ll do
- Prepare and perform initial reviews of various tax workpapers, partnership allocations, and tax estimates primarily in the hedge fund business line to assist with the tax compliance process as needed
- Use Microsoft Excel daily with a focus on manipulation of data sets
- Assist in the design, improvement, and maintenance of the Tax team’s proprietary software and automation tools by collaborating with the Tax Technology team, creating spec documents, and performing user acceptance testing (UAT) on new features
- Design and maintain automation workflows using technologies such as VBA, Alteryx, SQL and Tableau
- Operate proprietary internal software to generate Schedules K-1 and tax return templates to be used by external tax advisors to prepare tax returns
- Assist with audits conducted by federal and state tax authorities
- Address ad-hoc queries from other departments, including (but not limited to) questions around foreign dividend withholding tax and ECI implications of trading publicly traded partnerships
What’s required
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience in the field of accounting or taxation
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field plus strong accounting skills
- Strong technical skills including advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and logical operators)
- Ability and capacity to quickly learn and understand new software
- Excellent English language skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak clearly to effectively convey accounting and tax conclusions and to work closely with other team members on daily work
- Exceptional organizational skills to effectively manage shifting priorities, with a focus on clearly and frequently communicating with superiors
- Superior problem-solving skills and ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment
- A highly analytical mindset and a strong work ethic
- Self-starter with impeccable attention to detail
