Aerospace summer internship opportunities are now available across all engineering functions in our satellite propulsion and spaceplane programs.
If successful, you will be given big goals, resource and be supported by senior engineers to complete a project from start to finish. This will typically require you to research, design, build, test and prove a particular system or subsystem. The result will be an invaluable hands-on experience that you cannot get from the classroom.
Past examples of projects include developing reaction control engines, engine control systems, tracking antennas, satellite sub-systems, UAV recovery parachute and deployment systems, production/test/support infrastructure, flight trajectory simulations and flight testing our vehicles. If you are exceptional, there is a very real chance something you help build will fly in space.

What will set you apart?
You must show examples of real things you have built (including software if relevant). These projects may or may not have been part of your degree. Show the successes you achieved. Emphasise the creativity you implemented in what you built. Give specific examples.
When are Dawn Aerospace Intern opportunities available?
Internships are full time during the 2024/2025 summer university break.
How many interns will Dawn be taking on this summer?
Eight to ten.
Where will interns be located?
Christchurch, New Zealand.
Are students outside of New Zealand eligible to apply?
Yes, providing you are legally permitted to work in New Zealand.
What is the Intern Program interview process like?
Candidates selected to interview will undergo a variety of technical screens. Depending upon which group you interview with, you may also be required to complete a quiz, project, or programming test. Our best advice is to be prepared to tell us about your greatest technical achievements and the challenges you faced. In addition, how did you specifically innovate and take your project to the next level? Be prepared to discuss in depth your individual contribution to projects.
Are Internships opportunities paid and can I receive course credit for them?
Internships at Dawn Aerospace are paid, and can also be used to satisfy course credit at the discretion of your university. Please note that as an intern you may work on proprietary, sensitive projects; as such, we reserve the right to censor or limit presentations, papers, or reports on the work you complete. However, we are happy to confirm the dates of your employment and provide an overview of the types of experience you received.
