Roles and Responsibilities:

Job Summary/Overview:

 

The shift electrician is part of the primary response team for electrical trouble calls. While the system is monitored in the Central Control Room via the Facilities Monitoring & Control System, the shift electrician will physically investigate any issues, including alarms and warnings.

The shift electrician operates and checks on a variety of electrical equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Diesel Generators, Transfer Switches, Breakers, and other electrical equipment. They also perform basic preventative maintenance such as taking thermal readings and may perform corrective maintenance, if qualified on that equipment.

 

Specific Job Duties:

• Tour electrical rooms and identify any abnormal conditions. Perform 6S as necessary.
• Minor PMs. & BMs. Update activities om an equipment management system for work performed.
• Escort vendors/contractors into Electrical Rooms.
• Support Engineering activities to install and retrieve power-monitoring equipment as requested.
• Respond to Central Control Room (CCR) requests for site alarms or site/fab issues.
• Complete Qualified Electrical Worker based training that is required to perform electrical work at site.
• Take part in LSM and LQM activities to improve onsite safety and quality.
• Take part in shift turnover briefs, which should include, but not limited to: actions performed during shift, any abnormal conditions, and outstanding action items.
• Be an active contributor to site electrical safety improvements and improve the team's NEC 70E level of knowledge.
• Provide technical assistance to junior team members as needed.
• Coach less experienced members of the team to improve overall level of knowledge and job satisfaction.
• Identify and pass on any procedural, equipment, and personnel items requiring supervisor or management attention.
Work Hour Expectations - Shifts, Weekends, Overtime, On call?
This position will be for Extended Workweek Night Shift Work
• Shift work is an alternating shift, on a 2-week rotating schedule.

Shift: A Shift - Scheduled for 12 hour shift, Sun – Tues & alternate Wednesdays (Days)

Skills and Qualifications:

Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum years of experience required:

 

•  High School Diploma or GED is required; with some college or trade school preferred, apprentice work/study program is a positive.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, and Tools:

• Texas Electrician Journeyman License preferred, with the desire to seek a masters.
• Strong knowledge of the NEC 70E as it applies to industrial installations.
• Strong understanding of electrical distribution system and single line diagrams.
• Knowledge of standard practices of the Electrical trade.
• Prefer OSHA 10 training.
• Experience and training in the use of digital multimeters to read Voltage, Current (Amps), and Resistance.
• Ability to use testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes and thermal imagers.
• Microsoft Office.
