We are looking for a Systems Safety and Reliability Engineering Intern to join our team for summer 2025. The goal of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) engineering at Wisk is to build an aircraft that is safe to operate in an urban air-mobility environment. In support of this goal, you will be a part of the Systems Safety & Reliability team that identifies hazards associated with functions, systems and items and develop mitigation strategies in support of the certification of the product. The intern will also conduct Cybersecurity analysis that will aid the Cybersecurity team. The intern will report to the Supervisor of Safety and Reliability Engineering and will have a broad responsibility for the analysis of all safety aspects of the aircraft design.
Responsibilities:
- The goal of System Safety & Reliability Intern is to accurately assess risk to inform decision-making which results in an appropriate level of safety. In support of the airworthiness effort, the System Safety Engineer works alongside design engineers across all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, software, controls, systems, aerodynamics, flight test, manufacturing) to identify, quantify and identify risks associated with the functions of the aircraft and support systems. The System Safety Engineer employs qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods to determine the likelihood and severity of hazards.
- The System Safety Engineer will also flow down reliability and safety derived requirements to design engineering and flight tests to appropriately mitigate risks.
- The intern will learn about systems safety processes per guidelines provided in SAE/ARP-4754A and SAE/ARP-4761A.
- Define appropriate safety targets using airworthiness regulations and guidance material such as 14 CFR 23.1309 for developmental aircraft and systems and develop safety mitigation strategies.
- The intern will learn about various reliability analyses performed at systems and LRU levels and perform various safety analyses under the guidance of your mentor.
Requirements:
- Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters or PhD degree with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027.
- Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with cybersecurity analysis is a plus, particularly any experience assessing cybersecurity maturity using the NIST framework (preferred but not required).
- You are a highly motivated, self starting individual with a broad set of skills and never afraid of facing complex technical challenges.
- You are a solution oriented individual with a strong analytical mindset.
- You have strong communication skills and can easily tailor your communications to suit the audience.
- You can adapt quickly or propose changes needed to achieve early results in a timely fashion.
