Our specialist IT Ops Team works with a variety of customers to manage their systems to ensure maximum performance and cost effectiveness. We are now looking for a Cloud and Systems Engineer to join our long standing tight knit team of engineers.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Systems Engineer to become a part of our dynamic team.

Your main responsibilities will include designing, implementing, and maintaining our infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security.

This is a crucial role that requires expertise in the field of cloud engineering and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals. 

Responsibilities

Architecture and Design - Assist with the design and architecture of our networks and cloud infrastructure, considering scalability, reliability, and performance. Collaborate with customers and development teams to understand requirements.

Implementation and Deployment - Manage the deployment and configuration of applications, databases, servers and services on cloud platforms.

Security and Compliance - Implement and enforce security best practices for our on-prem and cloud environments. Manage and mitigate security vulnerabilities and incidents.

Performance Optimisation - Monitor and optimise the performance of cloud infrastructure to ensure efficient resource utilisation.

Administration and Knowledge Sharing - Administer, monitor and troubleshoot networks, cloud platforms, servers and databases. Keep documentation up to date. Collaborate with customers and development teams to provide support and share knowledge.

Cost Management - Monitor and optimise cloud costs to ensure efficiency and budget adherence.

Scripting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) - Develop and maintain scripts and IaC to automate and streamline the provisioning, maintenance and management of our endpoints and cloud resources.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or similar role, with a focus on cloud architecture and infrastructure.
  • Experience with network security; including firewall management (particularly FortiGate), web application firewalls, CDNs, SSL certificates, ciphers, etc.
  • Extensive experience with AWS, including:
    • predominantly IaaS (EC2), some PaaS (Beanstalk, RDS and Fargate) and many supporting services (VPCs, ELBs, S3, SNS, CloudWatch, Control Tower, Config, DRS, etc.).
    • Understanding of and experience with the five pillars of a well-architected framework.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell).
  • Solid understanding of networking principles and security best practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and basic DBA skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a variety of customers.
  • Nice to have:
    • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
    • Experience with Microsoft Azure.
    • Experience with cloud services such as Google Workspace, Office 365 and Cloudflare.
    • Some experience with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g. Fargate, ECS, Docker).
    • AWS certifications.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
