The Digital Catapult’s Network Engineering Team is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer with strong technical skills to work on high-priority programs related to Open-RAN deployment in a Telco Cloud environment.

 

Digital Catapult in (SONIC Labs) has one of the best Open-RAN 5G Testbeds in the UK, funded by DCMS and in collaboration with Ofcom. We will use this facility to support early exploration of 5G Open-RAN technologies and beyond through interoperability and conformance testing using advanced test & measurement capability.

 

Your role will be responsible for configuring and maintaining Telco Cloud and related hardware and software infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to configuring firewalls, switches, setting up servers, installing OS, onboarding software management platforms and system design elements. The role will also extend to elements of testbed management.

 

Remote work is here to stay at Digital Catapult, and most of our work will continue to be delivered remotely. We work flexibly but always with the goal of delivering our personal, team, functional, and organisational objectives. Typically, we expect everyone to work onsite from a Digital Catapult office from two to three days per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties)

  •  Managing and maintaining servers and systems (as necessary) to provide a resilient, effective and flexible environment for the SONIC Labs.
  • Setting up servers, installing OS and onboarding software management platform
  • Setting up and managing user accounts
  • Configuring and managing Firewalls and Switches
  • Monitoring performance and maintaining systems according to requirements
  • Ensuring security through access controls, backups and firewalls
  • Upgrading systems with new releases and models
  • Maintaining an infrastructure and software inventory system to provide adequate information for equipment management, replacement, licensing and insurance
  • Testbed management
  • Completing any other relevant duties as required by the Network Engineering Management Team

Requirements

  • System design expertise
  • Strong experience in VMWare, OpenStack
  • Strong networking and routing background (CCNA, CCIE) with experience on Palo Alto and Nexus switches, VLAN, VPN and RADIUS 
  • Scripting awareness in Bash, PowerShell or Python
  • Good all-round technical knowledge of operating systems, software, hardware
  • Demonstrable ability to quickly learn new technologies and methodologies
  • Experience in any cybersecurity compliance is highly desirable
  • Good communication and documentation skills to produce technical reports
  • Strong openness and desire to operate in an agile environment and adapt to the fast-paced changing landscape of Open-RAN technologies
