Summary/Objective:  The Product Engineer will design and develop solutions related to the following criteria: capacity expansions, cost down, market needs, product redesign/review, risk mitigation, and quality (internal and external). 
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  1. Make significant contributions to design, development, and validation of connector solutions (including, but not limited to, board to board, cable, power, high speed, and panel mount products).
  2. Works directly with purchasing, quality, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, process engineering, electroplating, suppliers, product management, and other necessary groups as a cross functional team to develop products/solutions.
  3. Works hands on to identify problems during product development and/or when quality concerns arise.
  4. Adhere to all corporate engineering standards including, but not limited to, documentation, file management, part modeling, and part simulation.
  5. Excellent organizational and time management skills for tracking projects.
  6. Responsible for administrative tasks as needed.
  7. Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills and demonstrated problem solving ability.
  8. Willing to travel to vendors and/or Samtec facilities outside New Albany as needed.
*The responsibilities as defined are intended to serve as a general guideline for this position.  Associates may be asked to perform additional tasks depending on strengths and capabilities.  
 
Preferred Experience:
  1. 2+ years of experience in design/development/manufacturing of complex assemblies.
  2. Must be able to meet the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) compliance requirements. 
  3. Proficient in MS Office Applications: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  4. Experience in data analysis (Minitab and/or JMP are ideal).
  5. Experience in electrical connector design, plastic injection molding, and progressive die stamping.
  6. Engineering Design Software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
  7. Solid understanding and application of physics and engineering fundamentals.
  8. Proven problem solver - demonstrated experience of data-driven root cause analysis.
  9. Lifting Requirements: Medium Work – Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
  10. Must be able to sit for more than 90 consecutive minutes, and not suffer from any sensory deprivation and/or paralysis of the limbs.
Education:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
    • Technical or engineering experience can substitute for preferred education.
  2. High school diploma required.
