Sustaining Mechanical Engineer

Here at sweetgreen’s Automation Team we’re working to scale our meal assembly automation - the Infinite Kitchen - into our restaurant fleet. Our goals are to improve the daily routines and workflows for our restaurant staff and enable great customer experiences. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our hardware team to help us scale up and optimize the Infinite Kitchen.

Location: 

Full-time In-Person: 75% based at Sweetgreen’s Boston Automation office in Charlestown, MA. 25% based at Sweetgreen’s Contract Assembly Manufacturing location in Westborough, MA.  Up to 25% travel.

 

What you’ll do: 

  • Work on design update projects for the Infinite Kitchen including design improvements for performance, cost and manufacturability
  • Support the manufacturing team by updating CAD and technical documentation as we gain learnings from the manufacturing floor and the field. Implement design changes through our ECO process. Add detail to part drawings and assembly documentation as required.
  • Design and build test fixtures, assembly jigs and QC tools and help implement them on the manufacturing floor
  • Design and build cleaning and maintenance tools and help implement them in the field. Gather feedback and improve designs.
  • Assist with maintaining IK’s compliance certification with the NSF, maintaining and updating documentation as required to maintain the Infinite Kitchen’s NSF certification.
  • Spend time on the manufacturing floor to understand issues and inefficiencies with the production process. Implement improvements via updates to designs and technical documentation.
  • Run testing to validate and de-risk design changes. Work closely with the Senior Engineers to determine testing parameters and success criteria

 

Who you are: 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a hardware engineering role with specific experience maintaining ‘real world’ production designs.
  • Experience with Solidworks and working within a PLM system. Experience creating technical documentation including part drawings and assembly documentation.
  • Familiarity with standards of mechanical documentation including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Familiar with DFM for commonly used fabrication processes including CNC Machining, Injection Molding, Casting, Sheet Metal fabrication, Wire/Cable, Welding, Casting, and assembly. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to create and maintain polished documentation.
  • Organized, highly communicative, and eager to learn

Salary range for this role:
Starting salary range based on experience
$80,000$105,000 USD
