Job Summary: The Sustainability Lead for Okpella Cement will oversee the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives to promote environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic viability. This role entails collaborating with various departments to enhance the plant’s sustainability profile and ensuring compliance with local and international standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Implement sustainability strategies, policies, and programs specific to Okpella Cement.
- Monitor, collect and analyze environmental, social, and governance (ESG) statistics concerning plant performance and provide reports to management.
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate sustainability metrics into operational practices.
- Engage with local communities and stakeholders to address sustainability concerns and build positive relationships.
- Lead training and capacity-building initiatives to empower employees and stakeholders in sustainable practices.
- Research and implement best practices in energy efficiency, waste reduction, and resource conservation.
- Conduct periodic audits and assessments to ensure compliance with sustainability regulations and standards.
- Work closely with the procurement team to promote sustainable sourcing and materials.
- Promote initiatives related to biodiversity preservation and habitat restoration in and around the facility.
- Identify funding opportunities and partnerships to support sustainability projects.
- Report on progress against sustainability goals and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or related fields. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in sustainability, environmental management, or related fields within a manufacturing or construction context.
- Proven experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in conducting sustainability assessments and audits and ESG administration.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of local and international sustainability standards and regulations.
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI, ISO 14001, or similar.
- Passion for sustainability and a commitment to promoting ethical practices.
