The Austin site consists of 2.76 million square feet and more than 600+ acres in land holdings.  Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s economic impact in 2023 generated $15 billion into Austin’s economy through salaries and other expenditures.

 

In 2021, Samsung announced a new facility in Taylor, Texas, where it plans to invest a minimum $17 billion in the build-out. The site spans 1,200+ acres and the first phase of development will have 4.7 million square feet of floor space consisting of a cluster of semiconductor manufacturing buildings such as a fab, office, parking garage, central utility building, and special utility supply facilities. The Taylor facility will boost the production of semiconductor solutions that will power next-generation technologies in areas like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and high performance computing.

Job Summary/Overview

As a leading semiconductor manufacturing facility, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance and are seeking a dedicated and experienced ESG professional to drive our efforts.

Specific Job Duties

  • Develop and implement an ESG strategy aligned with the company's overall business objectives.
  • Regularly engage with various semiconductor industry related consortia on sustainability initiatives and drive for continuous improvement related to ESG objectives.
  • Monitor and measure sustainability performance across multiple facilities on a continuous basis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the company to implement innovative technologies that support the company’s ESG goals.
  • Complete routine reporting of company sustainability metrics to associates in headquarters and benchmark best practices at other Samsung subsidiaries.
  • Identify and secure environmental impact off-set opportunities (water mitigation, carbon credit, SEP’s etc.).
  • Assess evolving Environmental regulations and engage in rule development (IPCC, Greenhouse gas protocol, etc.).
  • Develop an accurate model of carbon, water, waste footprint for the site 
  • Develop improvement projects/efforts with key stakeholders to achieve corporate sustainability goals
  • Prioritize project focus areas and secure budget for execution
  • Track project progress, validate  improvements and update models
  • Serve as sustainability subject matter expert on environmental programs including air, water and waste
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels to share ESG initiatives and progress.
  • Identify key issues relevant to the industry and ensure integration into business operations.
  • Implement monitoring mechanisms to identify, track and manage ESG-related opportunities and develop strategies to mitigate risks.

 

Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum years of experience required

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in ESG, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, or related fields, preferably within the semiconductor industry.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, and Tools: 

  • Proven success in strategy and implementation of short and long-term ESG improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks, standards, and reporting requirements (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD).
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical business practices and corporate citizenship.
  • Ability to lead collaborative teams.
  • Problem solver and critical thinker with a strong ability to influence others.
  • Capable of performing at a high level without direct day-to-day supervision.
  • Self-starter with the capability to develop subject matter expertise and willing to own and be accountable for projects.
  • Skilled at communicating with and persuading members of Executive Leadership within large corporations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead complex projects across all levels of the organization and bring different teams together to buy-in and achieve the company goals.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Experience dealing with federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
  • Experience developing, managing and leading projects.
  • Outstanding computer skills to include Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and database applications.
  • Demonstrated success on the job, as evidenced by satisfactory performance, acceptance of responsibility and growth in previous positions.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to create and manage multiple budget areas at once.
  • Ability to learn custom and internally developed software programs.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance is required.
  • Ability to work overtime / on non-scheduled days as required.
