The Iowa Clinic is seeking a Surgical Care Coordinator for our West Des Moines location. This Position will be responsible for coordination, education, and management of surgical patients, pre-operative planning and care. Duties include, but are not limited to surgery scheduling, pre-operative clearance referrals and scheduling, post-operative care scheduling including but not limited to physical therapy, and post-operative care planning including but not limited to skilled nursing, DME, or other hospital/surgery center discharge needs.

A day in the life…
Wondering what a day in the life of a Surgical Care Coordinator at The Iowa Clinic might look like?
· Performs duties associated with peri-operative care coordination like scheduling all orthopedic surgeries.
· Responsible for filling all available OR time and adding in cases wherever possible.
· Obtaining referrals for any pre-operative clearance appointments necessary per treating physician.
· Schedules these direct for patients when possible.
· Schedules post-operative treatment (e.g., Orthopedics) per physician protocols where possible.
· Coordinates all post-surgical discharge needs including but not limited to DME dispensing, skilled nursing needs, wound care, etc. e. Provides pre-operative education to all patients indicated for surgery.
· Main resource for patients with questions or who require further education beyond routine.
· First-line resource for patients regarding post-operative questions and complications.
· Assists with medical record requests and discerns which requests need to be sent to Support Services and which requests need to be fulfilled by the department.
· Follows HIPAA guidelines to maintain confidentiality of all patient information and uses discretion in patient interactions. Maintains confidentiality of corporate financial information.
