Supply Chain Quality Systems Engineer (Starlink)

SUPPLY CHAIN QUALITY SYSTEMS ENGINEER (STARLINK)

Starlink is SpaceX’s ambitious goal to bring high quality internet to the globe by building a constellation of thousands of satellites in low earth orbit (LEO) using our Falcon 9 reusable rockets. We require our suppliers to provide premium quality with rapidly evolving designs at increasingly ambitious volumes. We are actively looking for candidates who possess comprehensive knowledge of NPI manufacturing and quality tools and have unrelenting motivation to enable suppliers for success.

This is a technical position that requires practical experience with the materials, processes, and parts used in mechanical and electro-mechanical products. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who has experience defining and optimizing quality management systems, driving improvements based on KPIs, and performing and closing audits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement quality management system processes and improvements for emergent product lines and business needs to mitigate risk to the production line and field
  • Perform on-site quality management system audits and manufacturing process audits to assess new and incumbent suppliers to SpaceX procedures and ISO 9001 / AS9100 standard
  • Provide training and guidance to SpaceX suppliers and partners to build, implement, and improve policy, procedures, and systems that meet SpaceX business objectives and assure compliance to customer requirements and industry standards
  • Lead root cause investigations and validate supplier corrective actions to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar risks across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers
  • Implement actions both internally and externally
  • Ownership of supplier metric reporting, audit roadmap, and audit checklist for Starlink Product, Aviation, and Enterprise programs
  • Create visualizations and analyze data for insights, then use audit tools and collaborate with the Supplier Development Engineer to drive performance improvements where needed
  • Perform product audits, documentation review, and source inspections as required

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or STEM discipline
  • 2+ years of experience as a manufacturing engineer working on a production floor

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Extreme attention to detail and willingness to dig deep and question the process
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization, from shop floor production associate to supplier executive leadership
  • Intimate knowledge of manufacturing processes and associated products such as aerospace machining, sheet metal fabrication, harness fabrication, PCBAs, and injection molding
  • Strong technical writing skills, ability to communicate effectively with management, technical teams and all organizations in the business, and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic, be innovative, detail oriented, possess initiative, be positive, and be people oriented
  • Thorough knowledge of AS9100 and the ISO family of standards especially ISO9001
  • ASQ-CQA-RAB certified lead auditor or training with hands on implementation and assessment experience
  • Experience with quality tools including root cause and corrective action, QMS, and process auditing
  • Working knowledge of SQL – ability to construct and/or maintain PowerBI dashboards and metrics

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work extended hours, some nights and weekends when required to meet critical deadlines
  • Willing to travel up to 65% of the time, primarily domestic but also international
  • This position is based in Redmond, WA and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
  • Valid driver’s license mandatory

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:             

Pay range:          

Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year          

Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for 5 days of sick leave per year. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
