Impact In This Role
As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will enhance the quality of our manufacturing partners in India. You’ll work directly with these partners to resolve quality issues, drive improvements, and ensure that parts meet customer expectations. This role involves frequent travel within India and remote support through virtual audits.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Onboarding New Partners: Work with the Strategic Sourcing Team to evaluate new partners’ ability to deliver quality parts on time.
  • Partner Development: Set up processes and control plans to meet customer needs, and drive improvements using scorecards.
  • Nonconformance Resolution: Help partners fix quality issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Share best practices and improve our quality system to strengthen the partner network.
  • Inspections: Perform on-site inspections for high-risk orders as needed.
  • Customer Advocacy: Represent customer requirements at partner sites to maintain quality.

Must Have Skills-

  1. CNC Machining & Sheet Metal Basics
    • Understanding  of CNC machining process. 
    • Understanding of sheet metal processes (cutting, bending, welding).
  2. Quality Control and Inspection
    • Proficiency in reading part drawings with GD&T.
    • Skilled in using measurement tools (Calipers, micrometers. Height Gauge etc).
    • Experience with First Article Inspections (FAI) and statistical process control (SPC).
  3. Special Processes After Machining & Sheet Metal
    • Knowledge of heat treatment, surface treatments, and coatings.
    • Understanding how these affect part quality and dimensions.
  4. Process Improvement
    • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma for ongoing improvement.
  5. Compliance and Safety
    • Knowledge of safety protocols for CNC machining and sheet metal processes.
  6. Problem-Solving
    • Experience in identifying and fixing defects using root cause analysis.
    • Knowledge of common machining and sheet metal issues.
  7. Supplier Quality Management
    • Ability to audit suppliers and drive quality improvements.
    • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  8. Documentation and Communication
    • Ability to create and review quality documents (control plans, FMEAs).
    • Strong communication skills for working with teams and suppliers.

 

Preferred skills but not mandatory 

  1. Basic CNC programming knowledge (G Code, M Code)
  2. Basic CMM Programming Knowledge 
  3. Familiarity with different materials (metals, plastics) and their workability.
  4. Awareness of tooling and fixtures used in CNC and sheet metal work.

  • Proactivity: Anticipates issues and prevents them.
  • Collaboration: Builds strong relationships and works well with teams.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting, working on a computer, standing, walking, and handling parts.

Travel Expectations

  • 26-50% travel required.

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in supplier quality engineering for mechanical parts.
