The Opportunity
At Chicago CRED, we take a multifaceted approach to reducing gun violence, one proven to work in other cities. To create lasting change, we work directly with the individuals who are most likely to carry a gun or get shot and with the communities where gun violence is most concentrated. Through Street Outreach, Coaching & Counseling, Workforce Development, and Advocacy & Prevention, we lift young people and rally neighborhoods to dramatically rewrite the story of gun violence.
We recognize our ability to provide robust services relies significantly on our available resources. Our Philanthropy team leads our fundraising efforts across all lines of giving and works to cultivate a strong culture of philanthropy throughout the organization. Our goal is to build a fundraising department that sustains and grows the organization’s $32 million annual operating budget from a diverse pool of national and local funding partners. We seek a Philanthropy intern who will support the team in providing research, logistical, and strategic support to enhance meetings, events, and communications efforts.
Role and Responsibilities
- Assist with research and preparation for meetings and events.
- Provide data support, including consulting on Google Drive organization.
- Help develop presentations for internal and external audiences.
- Assess our digital presence and provide recommendations and guidance.
- Event and conference research and support day-of logistics.
- Attend donor and prospect meetings and capture key insights.
Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements
- Rising undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior with an interest in philanthropy, fundraising, impact investing, or a related field.
- Strong communication written and verbal skills and/or experience developing social media or marketing content (posts, graphics, videos, etc.).
- Cultural competency regarding our work with participants and sites.
- A proven background in a dynamic and evolving work environment.
- Strong intuition and incredibly perceptive Operate with care, kindness, and a spirit of generosity.
- Excited by working in an environment where any idea is possible and is driven to help execute to make those ideas happen
Location
Emerson Collective is a Bay Area-based organization with offices in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. This position is located in Chicago, IL, and is onsite 40 hours/week between June 9th and August 1st, 2025.
Key Dates
November 18 - January 10: Internship applications accepted, and interviews commence on a rolling basis. Please note that not all applicants will be selected for interviews.
January 10 - March 7: Interviews continue, and offers are extended.
June 9: Internship program begins.
August 1: Internship program concludes.
Compensation
All EC Interns are paid $25/hour and can expect to work 40 hours per week from June 9th to August 1st (eight weeks). Interns may also receive travel and housing allowances as needed.
This position requires being up to date on COVID vaccination consistent with current CDC guidelines, subject to documented religious and/or medical exemptions.
