Hillspire, LLC: Hillspire is an integrated family office management company serving all of the activities of Eric and Wendy Schmidt, including The Schmidt Family Foundation, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, Schmidt Sciences, the Special Competitive Studies Project, and supporting 800+ employees worldwide.
Program Overview: Summer Associates will spend no less than 10 weeks as a part of Hillspire’s Legal, Tax, and Grants (LTG) department, and will gain an understanding of how an in-house legal department functions within an integrated family office to provide a range of in-house legal, tax and philanthropic services. As a general rule, the program will not result in permanent offers following graduation.
Summer Associates must select one primary practice area of focus: corporate, philanthropic, science & technology, and government. They will each have the opportunity to participate in projects outside of their focus. Assignments may include research projects and memos, joining client meetings to assist attorneys in providing counseling and guidance, participating on a deal team, helping with other legal analysis or drafting tasks, and supporting the programmatic and legal considerations for grantmaking. Summer Associates will be paired with a mentor located in their respective office, and will work with partners across the organization, outside counsel and professionals.
Location: Summer Associates will be expected to work in one of our offices based on their selected primary practice area: Los Angeles (corporate), New York (philanthropic), Menlo Park (science, technology, and privacy; or philanthropic) and Washington DC (government).
