Job Overview: Subrogation Coordinator

MEMIC is seeking a Subrogation Coordinator to join our Claims Department in Portland, Maine. In this role, you’ll support the subrogation process, ensuring timely recovery of claims and efficient case management. Working closely with the Director of Legal Services, MEMIC Defense Attorneys, and external counsel, you’ll help maximize recoveries and maintain accurate records, contributing to MEMIC’s mission of exceptional claims service.

This position is perfect for someone with some claims handling, legal support, or subrogation experience looking to advance their career in insurance claims management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Subrogation Referrals: Coordinate and assign subrogation cases to MEMIC Defense Attorneys and external counsel, maintaining the subrogation referral database for accuracy.
  • Claims Recovery: Process and record subrogation recoveries while ensuring lien updates and compliance with legal and company standards.
  • Research & Investigation: Leverage proprietary databases to gather accident reports and other data to support subrogation claims and maximize recovery opportunities.
  • Vendor Communication: Act as a liaison between MEMIC and subrogation vendor partners, fostering strong relationships and ensuring smooth workflows.
  • Legal Support: Monitor legal mail, assist in scheduling mediations and hearings, and provide updates to the Claims team.
  • Training & Process Improvement: Help develop subrogation training programs and improve project protocols to enhance efficiency.
  • Provide backup support for Litigation Coordinators or Legal Assistants as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in claims handling, legal support, or subrogation preferred.
  • Skills: Strong written communication, research, and organizational skills are required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple priorities with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
