Studio Team Leader

The Studio Team Leader role is part of the ITG Studio team management structure, and is primarily responsible for the line management of a nominated group of studio staff in addition to Creative Artwork, Technical Artwork, Artwork or Photography and Retouching production responsibilities.

As a line manager you are responsible for the performance management, 1to1’s, training and development planning of your nominated team, helping maintain team morale and motivation and act as first line contact for issue resolution. You will provide production guidance, advice and mentoring, and maintain the studio quality and standards output of your team.

You will be part of the ITG Studio team management structure, supporting the Head of Studio to contribute to the effective day to day management of the studio.

Studio Team Leader responsibilities are in addition to your production responsibilities as a Creative Artworker, Technical Artworker, Senior Artworker or Photographer/Retoucher. In this capacity you will produce work to the highest standards of brand consistency, technical and content accuracy and efficiency. You will also support the Head of Studio in the pre-production evaluation of supplied files and guidelines, validating queries and issues where required, reviewing and verifying creative production work for adherence to brand consistency, production processes and supporting overall effective service.

It is anticipated that your time will be split approximately 25% management and 75% production.

Key Accountabilities

Line Management

  • Provide day to day line management of your nominated team
  • Act as first line escalation point for team queries
  • Manage issue resolution and escalate to the Head of Studio as required
  • Monitor holiday requests (Head of Studio and Production to manage approvals)

Performance Management

  • Conduct regular 1to1’s with your team
  • Monitor individual performance to ensure quality and standards are maintained
  • Manage any performance related issues through performance improvement planning

 

Training and Development Planning

  • Establish training and development plans with your team
  • Facilitate provision of required or requested training as appropriate in conjunction with the Head of Studio and Management Team

 

Guidance and Mentoring

  • Act as a mentor to your team in the development of skills and knowledge
  • Provide guidance and constructive advice in approach to challenges
  • Help resolve creative production queries

 

Team Morale and Motivation

  • Help maintain team morale and motivation, actively promoting a positive attitude
  • Monitor team morale and understand any key drivers affecting this
  • Share with Head of Studio, and propose any changes that would help maintain a positive, engaged and motivated team

 

IT Issue Resolution

  • Act as first line support for day to day IT issues affecting production
  • Escalate to Head of Studio as required

 

Creative Production

  • Provide production for scheduled projects for your area of expertise as relevant

    • Retouching
    • Photography
  • Accurate execution of all work adhering to design and brand guidelines
  • Responsible for ensuring all work is completed to correct technical specifications
  • Responsible for ensuring range work is consistent
  • Responsible for ensuring work created from master templates or guidelines is produce to the standards set out, with any discrepancies, issues or typographical concerns escalated to the Creative Director/Head of Studio

Pre-Production

  • Attend pre-production meetings to asses new projects
  • Be fully conversant with customer Creative and Brand guidelines, and how to produce work that adheres to guidelines
  • Interrogate briefs and provide input on proposed project execution methodology, and estimates of production time when required
  • Review project brief components, confirm acceptance of briefs and escalate issues
  • Provide direction and guidance to your team members in the execution of briefs

 

Studio Quality Standards Adherence

  • Responsible for ensuring production is to the highest standards and adherence to guidelines
  • Provide support to your team to enable production is to the highest standards and adherence to guidelines
  • Maintain team clear desk and confidentiality policy

 

System and Process

  • Responsible for the effective adherence to Production systems and process
  • Provide support to your team in the adherence to Production systems and process

 

Quality Management

  • Responsible for adherence to internal Quality Control processes and procedures
  • Provide support to your team in the adherence to internal Quality Control processes and procedures

 

Capability Development

  • Continuous personal knowledge development for your area of expertise
  • Continuous proactive development of software knowledge and competencies
  • Contribute to recruitment process, reviewing CVs and conducting interviews with Head of Studio

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • People Management knowledge and skills, with a good understanding of requirements, methods and approaches
  • Able to lead and drive performance
  • Be able to develop a team to nurture and develop new knowledge and skills
  • Be able to build and maintain excellent relationships with all internal stakeholders
  • Convey positivity and develop a supportive working environment
  • Excellent creative production knowledge and experience as appropriate

  • Excellent understanding of creative layout, design, typography, artwork
  • Excellent understanding of photography and retouching (where relevant)
  • Excellent understanding of branding and content
  • Confident at interpreting design guidelines
  • Able to produce and oversee design ranges to deliver consistency of execution
  • Knowledge of the Adobe suite of production software, especially InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Understanding of print requirements and limitations for all print processes
  • Understanding of digital requirements and limitations for content for all digital platforms
  • Good understanding of all common Creative Production content types
  • Have an exceptional eye for detail and meticulously high-quality standards
  • Be able to develop new knowledge and skills proactively
  • Good communication skills to liaise with all production process stakeholders
  • Proven experience of content creation
