Studio Designer

As a Studio Designer at Barkley, you should be comfortable communicating with internal teams to understand their concepts and interpret them visually and build out variations to expand upon existing design elements with an eye toward impeccable execution. You are detail oriented. You live and breathe the craft. You revel in the making of things. And you will have a hand in making our design product work better, smarter and more efficiently.

The Studio Designer works within our Studio environment alongside members of our Design team. As part of this group, you will report to the Studio Director for workflow, education and counsel — and will receive creative direction from Design and Creative team members on specific project work.

The ideal Studio Designer has a solid grasp on visual design and understands the role of color, typography, illustration and photography. You are fluent in core design applications. You know how to prioritize your time and can make progress quickly under minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uses layout design skills and creates visually appealing business presentations using a high level of proficiency with presentation software (Google Slides mostly and some PowerPoint).
  • Has a good eye for design and aesthetics to create well-thought-out presentations and longform content (publications).
  • Partners with internal executive teams to design company-wide presentations and communication materials that visually land the story.
  • Work closely with the Design team to establish and maintain the presentation design standards and guidelines for use across the company.
  • Be able to work with Adobe Creative Suite programs such as Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Animation design a plus.
  • Produces additional creative based on the original concept layout while maintaining the creative integrity (versioning). Understanding of color, typography, illustration and photography.
  • Makes all requested edits/corrections promptly and correctly.
  • Self-starter who manages time and tight deadlines with a great attitude.
  • Keeps supervisors advised of status and changes of all projects.
  • Ensures the quality and accuracy of files that are created.
  • Checks artwork for completeness and assures adherence to brand standards.
  • Assists in organizing, monitoring and maintaining files on the company server.
  • Efficiently and effectively manages a large and rapid workload and pays close attention to detail.
  • Create presentation boards and mockups for meetings, which may include printing to a large format printer.
  • Communicates as necessary with Studio Director to eliminate and prevent errors and issues.

 

Qualifications

  • 2+ year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 
  • Travel needed for pitch presentation support
  • In-office requirement for Kansas City office (not remote)
  • Good judgment and imagination to be able to make recommendations for the visual elements of presentation and/or advertisement.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.  
  • Spanish and/or French a plus
  • Computer Skills
  • Google Slides and PowerPoint requiredAdobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator on Mac (currently CC 2024)
  • Experience with motion graphics or animation is a plus.
