Staff Software Engineer, Storage Infrastructure

We’re looking for a staff software engineer with experience in infrastructure and a strong passion for reliability and operability. You will work with a world-class team of engineers on building software-driven reliability for Asana’s online storage infrastructure and solving challenges unique to our domain. We are looking for big thinkers and innovators to take on the problem space and deliver elegant solutions.

The Storage Infrastructure pod builds and manages infrastructure to ensure the reliability and scalability of Asana's online user data systems such as databases and search. You will collaborate with a team that supports Asana’s core data infrastructure, empowering all user workflows, AI features, and offline analytics. This role offers the chance to deliver critical impact and take full ownership while working closely with partner teams. As Asana scales rapidly, the team provides opportunities to design and build complex engineering systems at scale, utilizing industry best practices and innovative solutions.

This role is based in our Warsaw office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. What you’ll achieve

  • Produce high-quality design and code to build frameworks, services, and the tooling required to scale Asana’s storage infrastructure.
  • Drive impactful projects from inception to completion within the storage infrastructure, balancing engineering craftsmanship, execution, and stakeholder alignment across teams.
  • Participate in our on-call rotation to ensure service uptime; investigate and resolve production issues promptly.
  • Utilize strong accountability, self-motivation, and collaborative skills to deliver results efficiently, and guide the execution and velocity of other team members and projects.
  • Work with R&D teams at Asana to define a service-oriented architecture, enable product features, and help shape the engineering vision.
  • Promote solid engineering and operational practices through code reviews and mentorship.
  • Support design reviews, communicate constraints, and assist engineers in making informed trade-offs. Help other team members, appropriately, in decision-making and execution
  • Contribute to and strategize the future of storage infrastructure at Asana.

About you

  • Expertise in programming and computer science, and strong interest in distributed systems.
  • 8+ years of software development and infrastructure experience; 2+ years mentoring/coaching other team members on design and execution of projects.
  • 3+ years of experience building and scaling high-volume online data systems (e.g. search infrastructure, data stores), and operating highly available, user-facing production services.
  • Experience with data systems/technologies like RDS, Open Search.
  • Good understanding of data stores (SQL, NoSQL, Search) and internals.
  • Familiarity with AWS Services (e.g. IAM, RDS, EKS).
  • Strong knowledge, opinions, and experience of SRE principles.
  • Experience building scalable, highly-available service oriented architectures.

To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between 32,250 PLN - 41,083 PLN gross monthly. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.

In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits.
