Build Platform owns creating the build system and tooling that supports our AV and AI developers.  We use Bazel in front of an in-house Remote Bazel Executor (RBE) and Content Addressable Storage (CAS) to provide a premier build experience at Cruise.  Our team is constantly on the lookout for optimizations and new tooling that improves our product.

 

Cruise AV developers are heavy users of C++.  We are responsible for the toolchains, workflows, and tools that allow them to quickly write code with high quality.  We work with compilers, toolchains, dynamic/static analyzers, docker, and other tools to reliably build, test, and run AV code.  Improvements and optimizations by Build Platform have outsized impacts on the pace of Cruise development.

 

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design and implement improvements to our C++ development ecosystem and workflows, which have a measurable and direct impact on engineering productivity.

  • Collaborate with engineers across the company to understand and support their development workflows.

  • Own technical projects from start to finish and be responsible for major technical decisions and tradeoffs.

  • Lead complex projects that span teams, with many partners and customers.

  • Effectively participate in planning, code reviews, and design discussions.

  • Contribute impactful projects to the team’s roadmap.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment where impact is a result of your efforts and where your contribution is highly visible.

  • Drive software engineering best practices both within our team and across engineering.  Create tooling that encourages and supports these practices.

  • Mentoring and up-leveling other engineers on the team.

  • Conduct technical interviews with well-calibrated standards and play a crucial role in recruiting activities.

  • Be a positive contributor to our team culture.

 

 

What you must have:

  • 8+ years experience, with work on large-scale build systems preferred

  • 3+ years of experience leading and driving large-scale, cross-team initiatives

  • Experience working on developer tooling, build systems, C++, etc.

  • Experience working with compiler toolchain integrations (Clang, GCC, NVCC, etc)

  • Experience leading projects across multiple teams

  • Attention to detail, and a desire to improve processes & systems around you

  • Deep understanding of the business and operational impact for different technology tradeoffs

  • Passionate about self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world

 

 

Bonus Points!

  • Experience programming with C++ or Go

  • Experience with static and dynamic analysis tools (Axivion, Valgrind, ASan, TSAN, etc)

  • Experience with build systems such as Bazel or Buck

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure

 

The salary range for this position is $166,600 - $245,000. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
