The Staff RN uses the nursing process to deliver nursing care to a given patient care population as it relates to the care setting. Nursing care is based on the interpretation and execution of the medical and nursing plan of treatment utilizing established procedures standards and protocols of individuals within the assigned work shift. The Staff RN provides nursing care to the population served in the unit.

- Completes "HIS" documentation on admission and discharge from hospice.
- Complies with all Medicare regulations governing Hospice.
- Attends weekly IDG meetings, monthly staff meetings and hospice in-services.
- Administers medication subcutaneously via a pump for symptom management
- Recognizes signs and symptoms of the dying process and educates families on what to expect during the end of life transition.
- Utilizes knowledge of medications and dosages used to treat symptoms commonly experienced during end of life.
- Communicates with the appropriate interdisciplinary team members any changes in patient's condition or psychosocial status and coordinates changes in support and services to provide maximum comfort and maintain quality of life.
- Updates the interdisciplinary plan of care every 2 weeks using the "PIG" format - Problem, Intervention, Goal
- Participates in the monthly chart audit and peer review.
- Supervises and documents the hospice aide care plan every 2 weeks.
