Staff HV EWIS Design Lead

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 100 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

  • Create wiring diagrams and associated wire harness documentation for hazardous voltage (HV) harnesses operating at bus voltages between 400 V - 1000 V
  • Support the team in the performance of trade studies on potential harness and connector solutions and optimize for Size, Weight, Performance & Cost metrics at the harness and vehicle level and present these results to a cross-functional team
  • Prepare and qualify test procedures for HV harnesses with references to existing standards when possible
  • Support the team in performing failure analyses of HV harnesses and drive the analyses to identify root cause(s) and corrective action(s) and support incorporation of the corrections
  • Design a testing campaign to optimize cable, connector, material, and manufacturing processes testing and utilize test results to determine the proper solutions from a design and failure correction perspective
  • Support transition of HV harness designs to manufacturing
  • Work closely with module, HV bus, mechanical, and thermal teams to understand the use case and load profiles to appropriately specify and test harnesses
  • Work closely with the EMC and EEE groups to implement grounding schemes and EMI mitigation strategies

What you need:

  • BS Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years experience developing EWIS for vehicles (automotive, aerospace, etc.)
  • Experience performing Design of Experiments (DoEs), among other methods, to resolve issues encountered in design, manufacturing, and application of HV harnesses
  • Strong understanding of Aerospace/Mil-Spec wiring components and their assembly procedures
  • Experience designing test procedures, instrumentation, and breakouts to support manufacturing and end-of-line manufacturing tests
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Bonus Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of EWIS concepts, certification, and experience with FAA AC 25.1701
  • Experience implementing light weight conductors (aluminum) in a volume production vehicle
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics Custom plugin development and report generation
  • Passion for aviation and eVTOLs

We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the Company’s business strategy. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $163,200 - $205,000. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
