In this position, you will participate in development of advanced system architectures and complex simulation models for Western Digital’s next generation solid state drive products.

Typical activities include designing, programming, debugging, and modifying simulation models in order to evaluate these changes and assess the performance, power, and endurance of the product. This position also requires analysis and debug of firmware designs to correlate results against and improve those simulation models.

You will work closely with excellent colleague engineers, cope with complex challenges, innovate, and develop products that will be sold in millions of units.

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science or Software / Computer / Electrical Engineering, cum laude
  • At least 6 years Hands on experience of SSD Firmware development including Storage Protocols like NVMe, SAS etc.
  • Knowledge on ARM Processors and their in depth working of interrupts, debugging across different ARM Modes, GPIOs and other generic peripherals.
  • Experience with scripting automation using Python
  • Experience with debug and performance optimization of complex embedded systems
  • Multi-disciplinary experience, including familiarity with Firmware and ASIC design
  • Previous patent filing – advantage
  • Previous scientific publications – advantage
  • Previous experience with storage systems, protocols, and NAND flash – strong ad
  • B.Tech. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in firmware development for embedded systems, with a focus on storage devices
  • Strong proficiency in C programming with at least 4 years of hands-on experience
  • Demonstrated experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as ThreadX, MQX, Nucleus, or VxWorks
  • In-depth knowledge of ARM or ARC processor families, including debugging environments and tools
  • Solid understanding of NAND flash fundamentals and storage interface protocols (e.g., UFS)
  • Experience working with FPGA boards and hardware simulations
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and continuous integration tools
  • Proven ability to develop a wide system view for complex embedded systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cultural and organizational boundaries
  • Fast learner with a track record of quickly implementing new concepts and technologies
  • Experience with automotive or mobile OEM projects is a plus
