E-SPACE is hiring a

Staff Electrical Engineer

Loughborough, United Kingdom
Full-Time
Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you’ve come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of space-powered Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are fundamentally changing the design, economics, manufacturing, coverage limitations and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

By building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system—with a unique antenna design, highly sustainable spacecraft system and low-cost, small portable end-user devices—we can extend global satellite coverage, capacity and connectivity beyond legacy space services to provide a new kind of IoT platform that lets users sense, track, connect and act on information gathered, anywhere.

We’re intentional, we’re unapologetically curious and we’re 100% committed to saving space, protecting our planet and turning connectivity into actionable intelligence.

As one of the key members of our small team you will participate in the development and test of digital and analogue hardware.  You will work collaboratively with engineers of various disciplines and participate in all aspects of electrical hardware development, from requirements definition through design, prototyping, fabrication, testing, and production.

This is a full-time role based in our Loughborough office.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop PCBA requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines, based on system level requirements
  • Design complex high-speed digital/analogue circuit boards from datasheet to completion
  • Design power supplies
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium
  • Perform circuit analysis including power, tolerance, and reliability related
  • Perform all aspects of bring-up, including lower level driver coding
  • Perform design verification testing and system integration testing
  • Liaise closely with other internal teams such as Systems, Software, RF, Production etc.

What you bring to this role:

  • Excited to be a part of a multi-disciplined and multi-geographical team
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience in electronics hardware design including analysis, simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing
  • Experience in the selection of components for your own designs, which consider not only the design specification, but also environmental impact, cost, EOL, lead time, etc.
  • Low level power supply design experience using simulation (such as LTspice), and knowledge of power managers and monitoring devices
  • Experience designing complex clocking and timing solutions, including jitter and phase noise measurements
  • Design experience with complex microprocessor/DSP devices – working from earlier silicon
  • Design experience and analysis of on-board high speed data buses (e.g.: PCIe, Serdes, SATA)
  • Design experience with low/medium speed data buses (e.g.: I2C, SPI, LVDS, PECL, RS422, LAN etc.)
  • Experience with the schematic capture and layout of complex PCBs using Altium
  • Proficiency performing circuit analysisusing simulation tools (e.g.: SPICE)
  • Both comfortable and willing to use test equipment such as Scopes, DSOs, DMMs, Soldering Iron, ENV chamber, etc.
  • Experience with testing regimes that ensuretest coverage is maximized
  • Experience with circuit calibration and characterization over extremes of operating envelope
  • Experience with thermal design techniques
  • Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with the full V-Model design cycle, from requirement capture through design verification

Bonus points for following:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience designing for space environments, including radiation SEE/TID impacts and mitigation
  • VHDL/Verilog design experience, including test bench validation.
  • Ability to write Python scripts (or similar lower-level scripting) to aid testing and investigation
  • Design experience with ASIC designs
  • Experience designing rigid-flex PCBs and general electro-mechanical design familiarity
  • Experience with EMC (Immunity and Emissions), Environmental (temp, shock, vibration), Reliability (MTBF, MTTF), FMECA, etc.

We are redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured and used—so we’re looking for candidates with passion, deep knowledge and direct experience on LEO satellite component development, design and in-orbit activities. If that’s your experience – then we’ll be immediately wow-ed.

E-Space is not currently able to provide employment sponsorship for candidates who do not hold work authorization for the location of this role.

Why E-Space is right for you:

We want you to make the most of your journey at E-Space. That’s why we support and invest in the physical, emotional and financial well-being of our team members and their families. Some of what you can expect when working at E-Space:
