The Decisions Alliance

The Decisions Alliance is responsible for the company's Marketing Tech Stack, Customer Data, Experimentation, and MLOps platforms. It enables a rapid feedback loop to understand our customers, using AI/ML capabilities to find the best way to communicate with them. We’re constantly looking for ways to improve how we can help teams close their feedback loops and adjust their iteration times.

The role

In the Communications domain, understanding our customers is paramount to delivering a personalized and engaging communication experience. Achieving this necessitates high-quality data assets that seamlessly integrate data from various teams across HelloFresh. A robust and scalable data infrastructure is therefore indispensable for processing and delivering these assets promptly.

As a Staff Data Engineer in the Communications domain, you will collaborate closely with the Engineering teams responsible for developing and maintaining this data infrastructure. Your role involves designing technical solutions that address customer challenges, leveraging cutting-edge data engineering practices and technologies. Additionally, you will be entrusted with ensuring Operational Excellence within the domain, identifying opportunities to enhance reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.

What you’ll do

• Collaborate with and advise Engineering teams in designing technical solutions, ensuring coherence with our target data architecture.
• Act as an engaged, solution-driven member of autonomous, cross-functional agile teams, collaborating with Product Owners, Engineers, Data Scientists, and Marketing teams across all stages of our Product Development lifecycle, from Product Discovery to Delivery.
• Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of HelloFresh’s core product and architecture, serving as an ambassador for data solutions and best practices while providing support and mentorship to colleagues.
• Address software and data challenges with visible risks, roadblocks, and constraints, such as legacy dependencies, data quality issues, compliance concerns, or limitations in architecture or technology.
• Advocate for (Data) Operational Excellence, assisting teams and Engineering Leadership in identifying and prioritizing investments that enhance data quality and the robustness of data pipelines.

What you’ll bring

• Technical Proficiency: A strong foundation in data engineering concepts, including data modeling, ETL processes, data warehousing, and proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL).
• Problem-solving Skills: The ability to analyze complex data challenges, identify potential solutions, and implement effective strategies to address them. This includes troubleshooting data issues, optimizing data pipelines, and improving data quality.
• Collaboration and Communication: Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential for working closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, data scientists, product owners, and stakeholders. This involves clearly articulating technical concepts, actively participating in discussions, and fostering a collaborative environment.
• Adaptability and Learning Agility: Given the rapidly evolving nature of technology and data-related tools and techniques, you should demonstrate adaptability and a willingness to continuously learn and stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
• Leadership and Mentorship: As a member of the technical leadership team, you should demonstrate leadership qualities by providing guidance, mentorship, and support to (more) junior team members. This includes sharing knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a culture of learning and growth within the organization.
