The Senior Transportation Engineer undertakes complex design assignments requiring a diverse knowledge of transportation engineering, design principles and practices, traffic operations, safety and planning. With a working knowledge of all multi-disciplinary engineering related to transportation projects, the successful candidate will use experience and judgement to solve problems for a wide range of public and private sector clients.
- Lead design development on a variety of projects including: complete street preliminary design (municipal/ provincial) and surface transit projects (bus rapid transit, priority bus).
- Develop innovative and practical design solutions within the bounds of good civil design. • Integrate transportation planning and engineering to solve complex issues; working closely with traffic, utilities, natural, heritage, urban design and other disciplines to develop solutions
- Prepare design concepts related to active transportation projects, traffic impact studies, parking and traffic calming studies, and traffic management plans
- Produce preliminary design engineering drawings, including plan/profile, site layouts, cross-sections, and preliminary material quantity take-offs
- Manage small-medium sized projects and coordinate technical teams or sub-consultant resources to deliver projects • Contribute towards the submission of effective proposals to support the team and undertake business development activities
- Assign and review work of designers, provide technical guidance and training
- Provide advice on design processes and/or construction methods
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other documentation, including cost estimates
- Review drawings and perform quality control checks on drawings and reports
- Follow quality assurance/quality control, and health and safety requirements
Required Qualifications:
- University degree in civil engineering, or related field
- Eligibility to become a Professional Engineer
- A proven ability to work with federal, provincial and/or municipal design street and roadway design standards at the conceptual and preliminary design levels (e.g. Transportation Association of Canada, Ontario Traffic Manual)
- Demonstrated skills using CAD (e.g. AutoCAD, Microstation)
- Experience in complete street and rapid transit design within urban and suburban environments
- Experience in interpreting traffic output results (e.g. Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of ArcGIS and/or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to regularly attend client and public meetings in person in the Greater Golden Horseshoe and beyond
