Sr. Tax Associate, Indirect Tax and other Initiatives
Reporting to the VP, Tax, the Senior Tax Associate, will be responsible for managing all aspects of global indirect tax, including sales and use tax, VAT, etc. This role will partner with cross functional teams, to support business initiatives while maintaining compliance in this area. In addition, the Sr. Tax Associate will play an important role on certain tax projects including documenting existing processes, identifying opportunities for improved efficiencies, participating on teams responsible for administering the company’s global expansion efforts and managing and reporting on the global tax budget, amongst other items.
This role is remote with the option to work at our NYC office. The ideal candidate will be able to work Eastern time zone business hours.
How you'll make an impact:
- Manage all aspects of global indirect tax, including sales & use tax, VAT, annual business licenses, nexus, applicable technology and other items ensuring timely/accurate reporting and compliance
- Champion strategic action plans to centralize and/or streamline and document processes relevant to Indirect Tax or other assigned areas
- Prepare certain indirect tax returns, and review returns prepared by 3rd party providers. For returns prepared externally, ensure efficient processes between the company and the 3rd party vendor.
- Act as a business partner to cross functional teams (ex. tax, accounting, sales, IT, product and expansion teams), supporting business initiatives while ensuring tax compliance and risk mitigation
- Stay current on business product offerings and global footprint as well as global legislative updates
- As requested, support various projects including but not limited to indirect tax return automation, e-invoicing, transfer pricing, tax exemption certificates, invoice coding reviews, and global expansion
- Reconcile indirect tax accounts and support cash tax forecasting with FP&A
- Coordinate, manage, investigate and respond to tax inquiries, notices and audits
- Manage the global tax calendar under the direction of the VP, Tax
- Play a key role in the documentation of tax practices and controls, and the identification of opportunities for improvements
- Report on status of the global tax budget, including a reconciliation of spend to date
- Support Corporate Income Tax Compliance and Statutory tax reporting where requested
What you'll beed to be successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or tax law is required
- 3 to 4 years of experience in global indirect tax
- Experience researching and interpreting various tax laws and regulations
- Excellent organizational, analytical and technology skills (proficient in Excel, Avalara and NetSuite a plus)
- A self-starter who can work autonomously, take initiative, is detail oriented and able to multitask
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to analyze and document complex tax issues
- Ability to interact and collaborate across the organization
