Role Overview

Coupang Eats Engineering builds various products & services for our Customers, Stores (Restaurants/Cafes), Couriers and internal operations. It’s a complex multi-faceted problem that requires optimization across the business (customer experience, merchant management, delivery efficiency & effectiveness) to provide fast and cost-effective experience to our customers and partners.

As a senior technical leader in Eats Engineering, you will drive cross-team initiatives that are critical to business growth while ensuring engineering excellence. You will ensure all of Eats Engineering platforms are scalable, extendable, and highly available. You will be comfortable getting into code level details with other engineers and building software.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership to Eats Engineering organization and ensure that our engineers are working on building scalable and fault-tolerant systems
  • Engage with senior leadership and product owner(s) in developing and executing technical strategy and roadmap ensuring scalability and simplicity
  • Drive mission critical projects in collaboration with various stakeholders and engineers to solve complex business problems
  • Own the overall architecture plan and application of best practice architecture, design patterns and ongoing simplification of the system landscape
  • Dive deep to solve critical system issues. Ideally identify them before they happen and device a plan to address them
  • Help recruit top tier senior engineers to develop and grow a high performance and impact-driven organization
  • Develop, mentor, and coach engineers on architecture, design and engineering best practices
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with the team members, peers and leadership team
  • Own definition, measurement, and reporting of system and operational metrics

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of industry experience building B2C scale products, preferably in Java stack and AWS cloud environment
  • 7+ years of experience in technical leadership roles. Demonstrated experience in driving technical vision and execution at an organization / business unit level
  • Hands on technical skills in designing, building and delivering scalable and highly available products and services
  • Solid technical expertise and experience in Java development, system & data architecture, distributed computing & storage, messaging services, caches and performance tuning
  • Experience collaborating and driving initiatives across globally distributed teams
  • Data driven, business centric, and a high bias for action and impact. Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor/Master/PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or related field
  • Ecommerce / Food Delivery product development experience, a big plus
