Sr. Software Engineer, Backend

Team Description 

Our AI team is dedicated to preparing Pendo for the AI era by building production-grade infrastructure that enables every team to deliver quick, high-quality AI-powered products. We develop scalable AI pipelines, personalization engines, and conversational frameworks while collaborating closely with product teams to support their novel AI developments. By creating the infrastructure and tools they need, we help accelerate the delivery of impactful, production-ready AI features.

Role Responsibilities 

This role requires solving the challenge of bridging cutting-edge AI systems with Pendo’s backend, enabling all teams to build and deploy high-quality AI-driven features efficiently and effectively. In this role, you will:

• Design and architect the integration of Pendo's AI infrastructure with backend systems, ensuring seamless accessibility for Pendo’s engineering teams.
• Develop scalable, production-grade APIs and services that allow easy consumption of AI features across the platform.
• Act as a technical liaison, clearly communicating architectural decisions and integration strategies to engineering teams.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in backend development with expertise in GO, Java, or similar languages.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Proven experience designing and implementing production-grade APIs and services for AI or data-intensive applications.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, scalability, and performance optimization in distributed systems.
• A proactive mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality, maintainable solutions and fostering collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience integrating AI/ML systems with backend architectures in a production environment.
• Familiarity with AI tools and technologies, such as LLMs, machine learning pipelines, or data engineering workflows.

Compensation

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of many compensation, benefits and other reward opportunities we provide.

The expected salary range for this role to be performed in Raleigh, NC is $155,000 - $165,000.

Individual pay rate decisions, including offers made within and over the expected salary range, are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company.
